AGent Energy

VP, Product & Engineering

About Aigent Energy

AGent is building the leading software platform to optimize distributed generation resources — turning energy liabilities into reliable, monetizable assets. We bring AI to the aggregation, orchestration, and monetization of distributed generation in wholesale and retail power markets, delivering meaningful reliability, economic, and sustainability benefits to commercial, institutional, and industrial energy users, utilities, and grid operators.

We move fast, think big, and operate with a lean, high-trust team. Every hire matters here.

About the role

AGent has an immediate opening for a world-class VP of Product & Engineering who is ready to lock arms with our leadership team and take full ownership of both product and engineering. This is not a purely technical role — it is a builder's role. You will spend as much time understanding customers, shaping the product roadmap, and driving execution as you will overseeing the engineering team that brings it to life.

Our VP of Product & Engineering brings four things to AGent:

  1. A product-first mindset:  you know how to talk to customers, translate what you hear into prioritized features, and build the right thing in the right order;
  2. An engineering leader's instincts: you architect for scale, hold teams to timelines, and make smart build-vs-buy-vs-partner decisions; and
  3. An operator's discipline: you run tight processes, ship on time, and create the structure and accountability that a fast-moving team needs to perform.
  4. An Innovator's Vision: You see where the energy market is heading before others do, challenge conventional thinking, and translate that foresight into a bold product direction. You inspire the team to build things that are genuinely differentiated — bringing the innovation necessary to turn AGent's unique approach to distributed generation into a platform that stands apart in the market.

This role leans 50–60% product and 40–50% engineering. If you've spent your career purely in one lane, this probably isn't the right fit. If you've lived at the intersection of both — and loved it — read on.

Responsibilities

Product Leadership

  • Own the product roadmap end-to-end:  from customer discovery through prioritization, specification, and delivery
  • Conduct regular customer interviews and work closely with the Sales and Energy Markets teams to identify and prioritize the features and functions that drive the most value
  • Translate customer needs and market requirements into clear, actionable product specs and engineering priorities
  • Build and maintain a structured, transparent roadmap that aligns the full leadership team on what's being built, why, and when
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Operations to ensure new features are communicated, adopted, and driving outcomes for customers
  • Partner with the Sales team to demo the platform to prospects and customers — you are a credible, compelling voice for what AGent has built and where it's going.
  • Make crisp prioritization decisions: you know how to say no, and how to explain why

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and grow a team of engineers and product managers — people who have worked with you before would follow you anywhere
  • Establish and maintain the engineering cadence: sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, on-time delivery, and accountability
  • Own the technology architecture: ensure AGent's platform is built to scale, secure, and capable of supporting 24/7 mission-critical operations
  • Identify and manage technology outsourcing partnerships that supplement AGent's internal capabilities
  • Make fast, sound build-vs-buy-vs-partner decisions that optimize for speed, cost, and long-term scalability
  • Develop and maintain unit economics for the technology platform (hardware BOM, cloud infrastructure costs, etc.)

Execution & Delivery

  • Bring the operational structure and planning rigor that keeps engineering on schedule and leadership informed
  • Create and maintain tight delivery timelines — and hold the team accountable to them
  • Identify and resolve blockers early; surface risks to the CEO before they become problems
  • Ensure interim solutions and partners are in place wherever needed to support concurrent sales and customer commitments
  • Report regularly to the board and leadership team on technology roadmap, product milestones, and team performance

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience as a VP of Product, VP of Engineering, CTO, or senior technology leadership role at a high-growth technology company
  • Demonstrated product management background — you have built and owned roadmaps, conducted customer discovery, and made prioritization decisions under pressure
  • Proven track record of shipping product on time, managing engineering teams with discipline, and creating operational structure in fast-moving environments
  • Strong system architecture and design instincts: you know how to build platforms that scale
  • Comfortable and confident presenting and demoing the platform externally to prospects, customers, and partners: you can translate technical capability into business value in the room
  • Experience building and leading cross-functional teams of engineers and product managers
  • Exceptional communicator: you can present to a board, interview a customer, and give a junior engineer clear feedback, all in the same day
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, remote, startup environment where self-initiative is essential
  • Deep passion for technology and energy

Preferred

  • Experience in distributed energy, electricity markets, grid operations, or adjacent industries
  • Familiarity with distributed generation assets, backup power systems, or DER platforms
  • Experience with hardware/software co-development and associated unit economics
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field from a top-tier program

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, performance bonus, and early-stage equity
  • 100% employer-paid Health, Dental, and Vision premiums for full-time employees
  • Two health plan options: traditional plan with FSA, or HDHP with company-funded HSA
  • Basic Term Life Insurance + voluntary insurance options
  • Flexible PTO
  • Fully remote — work from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Direct access to the founding team and real ownership of your work from day one
  • A front-row seat to the energy transition
