Amber Electric (External)

Senior Risk & Trading Analyst

⚔About Amber

Amber is an entirely new way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy.Ā We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 mins and the technology to shift more of their energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid.Ā It’s a cheaper way to buy power, a smarter way to sell power, and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy.

We are a clear category leader in Australia for home battery automation and are growing rapidlyĀ (close to 100k customers). We have alsoĀ recently expanded into licensing our core technologyĀ to utilities overseas, including aĀ partnership with E.ON Next in the UK.

Amber is backed by leading Australian and international investors, including Square Peg, Main Sequence, Breakthrough Victoria, Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack, ETF Partners and E.ON Next. Most recently, Amber raised a $78.5 million Series E, led by 1GT, Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s climate tech fund, alongside participation from existing investors.

We are scaling rapidly and you’d be joining a team of over 250 committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and purpose-driven culture as we transform a major industry.

Our products are reshaping home energy: Amber for Batteries cuts bills by exporting stored energy at wholesale prices of up to $20/kWh, and Amber for EVs enables the cheapest, cleanest charging. In 2026, we are pushing this even further with our new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.

šŸ’» About the Role

The Senior Risk and Trading Analyst is the analytical and commercial engine behind Amber’s hedging program. The role supports the entire trading lifecycle: forecasting, pricing and risk, position management, trade execution and environmental compliance. It owns the demand and price scenario models that determine how much Amber hedges, with which instruments and at what residual risk, and works closely with the Senior Hedging Manager to turn that analysis into executed trades within delegated authority and approved risk limits.

Amber passes real-time wholesale electricity prices through to customers, which creates unusual hedging and risk dynamics, including the Price Protection Guarantee, alongside more conventional challenges such as environmental certificate price risk. This is a data-heavy role for someone who enjoys building models from first principles on granular customer level data and defending the answer in front of senior stakeholders.

This is an important role that requires strong commercial decision-making, keeping risk at front and centre. It suits an all-rounder who has spent time in risk and analytics teams with a trading focus. You would need to have an in-depth understanding of the NEM, and the ability to contribute to three areas where you will be a SME: Trading, Data Analytics and Environmental Markets.
