EHS Coordinator

About the role

NovaFlex is seeking an EHS Coordinator to support both the construction phase and operational phase of our U.S. manufacturing facility.

This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining EHS programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting construction site safety management, conducting employee training, managing environmental and occupational health initiatives, and driving continuous improvement efforts.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing startup environment and capable of building EHS processes from the ground up.

What You'll Focus On

During Factory Startup

  • Establish EHS policies, procedures, and management systems for the U.S. facility.
  • Conduct EHS compliance assessments and identify regulatory requirements.
  • Support contractor safety management and construction site safety oversight.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, regulatory agencies, consultants, and third-party organizations.
  • Develop emergency response plans and site safety procedures.
  • Participate in equipment installation and commissioning safety activities.
  • Support risk assessments and hazard identification efforts throughout facility construction and startup.

After Production Launch

  • Conduct routine EHS inspections and compliance audits.
  • Lead employee safety training and EHS awareness programs.
  • Manage environmental compliance activities and reporting requirements.
  • Support occupational health initiatives and workplace hazard prevention.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of EHS programs and performance metrics.

Key Responsibilities

EHS System & Compliance Management

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Monitor federal, state, and local EHS regulations and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Coordinate compliance audits, corrective actions, and regulatory reporting activities.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies, consultants, and external auditors when required.

Risk Management & Site Safety

  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification activities, and safety inspections.
  • Develop corrective action plans and ensure timely implementation.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and construction site safety compliance.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, and startup safety activities.

Training & Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Establish and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate emergency drills, incident investigations, and follow-up actions.

Environmental & Occupational Health Management

  • Monitor waste management, environmental compliance, and environmental control measures.
  • Support environmental permitting, reporting, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Coordinate occupational health programs and workplace hazard prevention initiatives.
  • Assist in implementing health and safety improvement projects.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain EHS records, training records, audit reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Track EHS performance metrics and support management reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve EHS performance and operational compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Background in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of EHS experience.
  • Manufacturing EHS experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting factory construction, facility startup, or equipment installation projects is highly preferred.
  • Experience in renewable energy, advanced materials, chemical, or industrial manufacturing environments is a plus.
  • English required.
  • Mandarin Chinese preferred.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of workplace safety, occupational health, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment, hazard identification, incident investigation, and corrective action processes.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining EHS management systems.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently and drive EHS initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

Preferred Certifications

  • OSHA-related certifications
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager)
  • Other relevant EHS certifications
