This position is responsible for utilizing diagnostic imaging equipment to assist in the diagnosis of various medical conditions for patients potentially in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.


Main Job Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions.
  • Explains the procedure to patients in a way they will understand.
  • Records any medical history that may be relevant to the exam.
  • Obtains and provides diagnostic images, measurements, and preliminary reports of patients of all ages for review by the Radiologist. 
  • Maintains HIPAA, PHI, OIG and SEC compliance.
  • Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures (OSHA).
  • Assist Radiologist guided procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Associate or bachelor's degree in diagnostic imaging accredited school preferred.

AART or ARDMS registered preferred, registry eligible conditional and maintains ongoing CEU's as applicable.

Basic Life Support Certification required.

Advanced Critical Life Saving Certificate preferred.


Other Requirements


Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, instrumentation, patient care, and medical ethics.
  2. Working knowledge in abdominal, obgyn, breast, vascular, pediatrics, and emergent exams.
  3. Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement practices to establish a safe work environment.

Skills:

  1. Clear communication and interpersonal interactions.
  2. Attention to detail and ability to focus in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  4. Technical competency.

 

Abilities:

  1. Explain technical procedures to patients in a user-friendly manner.
  2. Calm patients who may be nervous about the procedure.
  3. Use correct body mechanics/ergonomics to assist patients appropriately.
  4. Work both in a team setting as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  5. Multi-task efficiently and effectively.
  6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management, and peers.
  7. Competently use Microsoft Office.

Equipment Operated: Variety of diagnostic imaging equipment, CT, X-Ray, MRI, Mammo, ultrasound machines, Trophon EPR, ABI machine, variety of PACS, and RIS systems.

 
Work Environment: Both the outpatient and inpatient setting including portable exams and OR procedures. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to clinic settings is possible.

Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with a Sonographer such as standing for long periods. May have to lift/turn disabled patients. Work primarily at diagnostic imaging machines involving standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching. Will be required to pass a work related physical prior to start date and subsequently after any extended leave due to injury, surgery, and any other reason outlined in employee handbook.


Conditional Requirements:

Some medical diagnoses and implants may make working around the Magnetic Resonance fields difficult or impossible. They can pose a safety issue for yourself, your device, or those around you.  Examples of these devices are but are not limited to aneurysm clips, hearing aids, cochlear implants, pacemakers, and ICDs. Diseases include uncontrolled seizure disorder, A fib, syncope, or if you are on any medications that might alter your mental clarity.
