About the Role
Position Overview
The Department of Labor Unemployment Insurance Tax Division is seeking an entry-level
State Accountant I to support daily financial operations and help ensure accurate, efficient, and
compliant accounting processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin
or grow a career in government accounting and finance.
Working under close supervision, you'll assist with reviewing financial transactions, preparing
reports, reconciling data, researching discrepancies, and supporting statewide financial
systems. Training and guidance are provided while you develop your knowledge of state
accounting policies, procedures, and financial systems.
Key Responsibilities
● Review, reconcile, and process financial transactions and accounting records.
● Research and resolve discrepancies in financial data and system reports.
● Prepare, analyze, and distribute financial reports.
● Assist with maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
● Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and
procedures.
● Respond to questions and provide support to state agencies, vendors, and other
stakeholders.
● Utilize financial systems and software to research, analyze, and document financial
information.
● Participate in special projects, including system testing, upgrades, reporting, and
compliance initiatives.
● Recommend process improvements that enhance efficiency and strengthen internal
controls.
● Provide professional customer service through phone, email, and written communication.
● Perform other related duties as assigned.
