Claims Advocate


Summary of Position

The Claims Advocate is responsible for directing and supporting initiatives related to the evaluation, processing, and handling of insurance claims.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Ability to meet deadlines, exhibit great attention to detail, and communicate in a positive manner is essential. Communicating professionally and clearly is required. A thorough understanding of software, systems, business procedures, and problem-solving is necessary for success. 

  • Set-up new claims in CIA’s agency management system (EPIC).
  • Record, track and maintain claim files for clients, ensuring timely payments, coverage decisions and addressing disputes from insureds and claimants.
  • Collect, interpret, and distribute vast amounts of information from various sources relating to the handling of claims.
  • Communicate with insureds to secure claim information, discuss various claim handling scenarios and possible obstacles prior to reporting claims.
  • Coordinate with carriers, Producers, and insureds on claim review meetings.
  • Assist Producers in coverage determinations.
  • Generate special claims projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to manage scenarios of an urgent nature with an ability to maintain composure under situations of duress.
  • Knowledge/awareness of coverage application from policies and order of coverage presence in claim filing scenarios.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships and workflows with clients by providing prompt and accurate service.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze and organize data.
  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial insurance, specifically P&C.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as stellar interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, recordkeeping, note-taking, and advanced typing.
