Join Our Pharmacy Operations Team

Rx Route is seeking Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs) to join our growing pharmacy operations team in Tomball, Texas.

We are hiring for both full-time and part-time positions, with all positions paid on an hourly basis.

This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-volume pharmacy and fulfillment environment supporting prescription processing, compounding and production, inventory, quality, packaging, and fulfillment operations.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, quality-focused, and comfortable working within established procedures and under pharmacist supervision. This role is an important part of building a scalable pharmacy operation while maintaining high standards for patient safety, accuracy, compliance, and product quality.

Important: This is a 100% onsite position at our pharmacy and fulfillment operations facility in Tomball, Texas. This is not a remote or hybrid position.



Position Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) supports the safe, accurate, compliant, and efficient execution of pharmacy operations under the direct supervision and professional authority of a licensed pharmacist.

Depending on training, qualifications, and assigned responsibilities, the CPhT may support:

  • Prescription processing
  • Medication preparation
  • Production and fulfillment
  • Labeling and packaging
  • Inventory and supply management
  • Quality assurance
  • Documentation and recordkeeping
  • Shipping and cold-chain preparation

All activities must be performed within the technician's legally permitted scope of practice, applicable Texas and federal requirements, pharmacist direction, and Rx Route policies and SOPs.

The position may involve work subject to USP <795>, <797>, and <800>, as applicable to assigned responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Prescription Processing

  • Accurately enter and process prescription information in approved pharmacy systems.
  • Review patient demographics, prescriber information, medication, strength, dosage form, quantity, directions, and other required information for pharmacist review.
  • Identify missing, inconsistent, or potentially incorrect information and promptly escalate concerns to a pharmacist.
  • Maintain efficient workflow while protecting prescription accuracy and patient confidentiality.

Labeling, Packaging & Fulfillment

  • Generate and apply labels according to approved workflow and pharmacist-authorized prescription information.
  • Verify packaging components, quantities, ancillary materials, and shipping requirements within the technician's assigned responsibilities.
  • Support picking, packing, staging, cold-chain handling, and shipment preparation.
  • Maintain accurate fulfillment and shipment documentation.

Inventory & Supply Management

  • Receive, organize, rotate, count, and maintain pharmacy inventory and supplies.
  • Monitor lot numbers, expiration dates, Beyond-Use Dates (BUDs), storage conditions, and inventory levels as applicable.
  • Identify shortages, discrepancies, damaged products, expired materials, or supply risks and escalate promptly.
  • Support cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, procurement communication, and warehouse coordination.

Quality & Compliance

  • Follow all applicable SOPs, training requirements, quality systems, safety procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Promptly report errors, near misses, deviations, spills, damaged products, temperature excursions, and compliance concerns.
  • Participate in corrective actions, retraining, CAPA, Plan of Correction (POC), and continuous improvement activities when assigned.
  • Maintain clean, organized, inspection-ready work areas.

Documentation

  • Complete required records accurately, contemporaneously, and in accordance with SOPs.
  • Maintain production, compounding, inventory, cleaning, training, fulfillment, and other assigned records.
  • Protect the confidentiality, accuracy, integrity, and traceability of pharmacy records.

Teamwork & Operational Support

  • Collaborate with pharmacists, technicians, fulfillment personnel, warehouse teams, training personnel, operations, and leadership.
  • Support daily production and workflow priorities established by pharmacy leadership.
  • Communicate workflow blockers, shortages, quality concerns, and process issues promptly and factually.
  • Participate in training, cross-training, workflow improvement, and operational scaling initiatives.


Required Qualifications

  • Active Texas Pharmacy Technician registration in good standing.
  • Current national pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) through an accepted certifying organization.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy terminology, prescription processing, HIPAA, and applicable pharmacy procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and documentation.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and work effectively under pharmacist supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume pharmacy, compounding, production, or fulfillment environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive pharmacy production and fulfillment tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite in Tomball, Texas.
  • Availability to work the assigned schedule based on full-time or part-time employment status.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous pharmacy technician experience in a compounding, fulfillment, production, or high-volume pharmacy environment.
  • Experience working in a compounding pharmacy.
  • Familiarity with USP <795>, <797>, and/or <800>, as applicable to assigned responsibilities.
  • Experience with pharmacy production, fulfillment, inventory, quality, or warehouse systems.
  • Experience working in a high-volume or rapidly growing pharmacy operation.


Professional Scope & Patient Safety

The CPhT is expected to work strictly within the legally permitted pharmacy technician scope of practice and under pharmacist supervision.

The technician may not independently:

  • Perform final prescription or product verification.
  • Counsel patients.
  • Make clinical decisions.
  • Alter prescriptions.
  • Perform pharmacist-only functions.
  • Perform activities requiring the professional judgment of a pharmacist.

Any patient safety, prescription, quality, regulatory, or operational concern must be promptly escalated to the supervising pharmacist or PIC.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is an onsite pharmacy operations position in Tomball, Texas. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a structured, fast-paced environment that may involve:

  • Extended periods of standing and walking
  • Repetitive production, packaging, and fulfillment activities
  • Repetitive hand and wrist movements
  • Strict adherence to SOPs and workflow controls
  • Time-sensitive production and fulfillment deadlines
  • Pharmacy compounding-area requirements, when applicable
  • Inventory and warehouse coordination
  • Temperature-controlled work or storage areas, when applicable
  • Frequent collaboration with pharmacists, technicians, fulfillment personnel, and operations leadership


Schedule

Full-time and part-time schedules are available. All positions are paid hourly.

Schedules will be established based on pharmacy operating and production needs and may include:

  • Day shifts
  • Evening shifts
  • Weekend coverage
  • Holiday coverage, as needed
  • Schedule adjustments based on operational requirements

Specific shift hours and expected weekly hours will be discussed during the hiring process.


Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Pay: Competitive and commensurate with experience, certification, qualifications, and assigned responsibilities.

Pay rates may vary based on experience, qualifications, responsibilities, and other job-related factors.

Compliance & Professional Expectations

The Certified Pharmacy Technician is expected to:

  • Maintain all required Texas registration and national certification in good standing.
  • Work within the legally permitted pharmacy technician scope of practice and under pharmacist supervision.
  • Follow all applicable laws, regulations, SOPs, quality systems, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, patient safety, product quality, and pharmacy records.
  • Promptly escalate errors, deviations, quality concerns, and regulatory issues to the supervising pharmacist or PIC.
