Title: Community Director

Location: Remote but based in Atlanta, GA


The Community Director is a senior contributor responsible for building and sustaining EdgeConneX presence and reputation across the communities where we operate and develop. This role combines meaningful external relationship-building with hands-on program delivery, identifying and activating the right community organizations, planning and executing sponsorships and events, and forging lasting partnerships with technical programs, community colleges, and four-year universities that create real pathways into data center and infrastructure careers.


A core focus of this role is building the education ecosystem EdgeConneX needs to develop its future workforce. The Director will work directly with academic and workforce development institutions to raise awareness of the skills and certifications required for junior operations and trades roles, inspire students to consider infrastructure careers, and establish scholarships and sponsorships that make those pathways tangible. In addition, this role supports the broader communications function, contributing to content development in ways that amplify community and education impact stories across the right channels. Existing relationships with educational institutions at the technical, community college, and university level are strongly preferred.

This position reports to the Sr. Director of Marketing & Communications.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Relations & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and execute EdgeConneX community relations strategy across active and pipeline development markets across Georgia or US east coast?; serve as a trusted, visible representative of EdgeConneX in local communities, ensuring consistent presence and engagement before, during, and after development.
  • Identify, evaluate, and initiate relationships with community organizations, civic groups, nonprofits, local government entities, and advocacy partners whose missions align with EdgeConneX values around community investment, workforce development, and sustainability.
  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships with municipality leaders, school administrators, chambers of commerce, neighborhood associations, and other civic stakeholders; represent EdgeConneX at community events, public forums, and local events.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders across internal teams to align community relations activity with project timelines and corporate priorities; serve as an informed voice on community dynamics for cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor community sentiment, emerging concerns, and local dynamics in markets where EdgeConneX has active or pending development; flag early signals of opposition or support and recommend proactive engagement approaches.
  • Maintain a comprehensive stakeholder engagement tracker across all markets, documenting relationship history, commitments, follow-up actions, and partnership status to ensure accountability and continuity.

Community Sponsorships & Events

  • Manage EdgeConneX community sponsorship program, identifying high-impact opportunities that align with our brand values, market presence, and workforce development goals; oversee vetting, approval, execution, and post-event evaluation of sponsorship commitments.
  • Plan and deliver EdgeConneX-hosted and co-sponsored community events, including workforce awareness days, community open houses, STEM showcases, and civic convenings, from concept through execution and post-event reporting.
  • Establish and maintain a due diligence process for evaluating prospective community and charitable partners, including mission alignment, financial health, reputational screening, and community impact track record.
  • Contribute to master calendar of sponsorship commitments, event deadlines, and community activations; coordinate with Marketing and Communications to ensure events and sponsorships are amplified across appropriate channels.
  • Track and report on the outcomes and impact of sponsorship and event investments; contribute to metrics and reporting that demonstrates value to internal leadership and external partners.

Education Pathways & Workforce Development

  • Support EdgeConneX education partnership program, establishing and deepening relationships with technical high schools, trade programs, community colleges, and four-year universities in markets where the company operates or is developing; leverage existing institutional relationships to accelerate trust and collaboration.
  • Work directly with academic administrators, department chairs, workforce development coordinators, and faculty to identify curriculum alignment opportunities, raise awareness of data center and infrastructure careers, and develop pathways that connect student learning to real employment outcomes.
  • Champion awareness of the specific skills, certifications, and trades training required for junior operations roles in data centers, including electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and critical systems disciplines and collaborate with institutions to embed or expand relevant programming.
  • Identify, develop, and manage education partnership programs that connect EdgeConneX business and mission to student learning, including facility tours, guest speaker engagements, curriculum support, internship pipelines, and career awareness initiatives in technology and data center fields.
  • Co-develop and manage EdgeConneX scholarship and educational sponsorship programs, including selection criteria, application processes, award cycles, recipient stewardship, and public recognition; ensure programs are designed to build lasting institutional relationships.
  • Represent EdgeConneX at education-focused conferences, workforce development convenings, and regional economic development forums; build the company’s reputation as a committed partner in developing the next generation of infrastructure talent.
  • Capture and amplify community and education engagement stories, including photos, testimonials, student outcomes, and program milestones, for use across social media, internal communications, award nominations, and sustainability reporting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with a demonstrated ability to engage credibly and effectively at the institutional, civic, and community level
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; able to represent EdgeConneX compellingly to diverse external audiences and translate business priorities into community-relevant narratives
  • Proven ability to develop and manage community and education programs from concept through execution and evaluation, with strong attention to follow-through and detail
  • Commitment to organizational excellence and a constant drive to improve the quality and impact of programs and partnerships
  • Superb ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and relationships simultaneously across geographies
  • Strong cross-functional collaborator; able to work effectively across Real Estate, Legal, HR, Operations, Public Affairs, and Marketing to align community activity with business goals

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in community relations, corporate affairs, public affairs, education partnerships, communications, or a closely related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Education, Political Science, Marketing, or a related discipline; advanced degree a plus• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Education, Political Science, Marketing, or a related discipline; advanced degree a plus
  • Demonstrated track record of building and managing institutional relationships with educational organizations at the technical, community college, and/or university level; existing education relationships in one or more EdgeConneX markets strongly preferred
  • Experience developing and managing scholarship, sponsorship, or grant programs, including design, administration, and stakeholder stewardship
  • Proven ability to plan and execute community events and sponsorships, from strategy through delivery and post-event evaluation
  • Proven track record as a skilled writer and editor across multiple formats, including press releases, community impact content, and social media
  • Experience with media outreach, press release distribution, and proactive story pitching
  • Experience working with workforce development systems, trades programs, apprenticeship pipelines, or similar early career pathway initiatives is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with the data center, energy, construction, or real estate industries; understanding of skilled trades and technical operations roles preferred
  • Candidates with experience in the Data Center industry, Construction, or Real Estate environments are strongly encouraged to apply
