Project Hydrogeologist

Regional Victoria or Melbourne, VIC 
Regional Central Victoria (Benalla, Seymour, Bendigo or Shepparton and greater surrounds, other areas will also be considered) or Melbourne. 

Position Description 

Reporting to the Victorian Team Lead as a Project Hydrogeologist, working on water resource projects as well as the Contaminated Land and Groundwater Sector, you will be responsible for providing technical and field support to a diverse range of projects including water resources, oil and gas, chemical and heavy industry, landfills and others. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Management, analysis and presentation of environmental investigation, monitoring data, including groundwater, surface water, soil, recovery and other types of data 
  • Desktop data gathering and compilation
  • Background reviews of technical guidance, regulations and case studies
  • Assistance with reporting and preparation of other written deliverables, including: monitoring reports, pump test reports, environmental site assessments, work plans, health and safety plans and proposals
  • Providing technical expertise in the following fields;
    • Groundwater flow and well hydraulics
    • Contaminated Land Assessments (with specific emphasis assisting our landfill team)
    • Conceptual site model development
    • Mining and CSG Water Management
    • Coordination and implementation of environmental field programs, including:
    • Logging, drilling and monitoring of well installations.
    • Set up, supervision and analysis of pumping tests.
    • Field assessment and sampling of soils.
    • Groundwater and surface water monitoring.
    • Field assessment and sampling of soils.
    • Other environmental inspection and monitoring programs.
  • Supervision of subcontractors in the field (e.g. drilling supervision, excavation supervision)
  • Project and task management – planning and implementation of scope, schedule, budgets

Qualifications/Education

  • Bachelor degree in hydrogeology, geology, environmental science, environmental engineering, with a postgraduate degree in hydrogeology desirable.
  • Up to three years of experience in a relevant environmental role, including training and experience in groundwater and soil sampling and ideally pumping test analysis.
  • A developing understanding of environmental and resource regulations.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel (experience with Power BI and other database management experience is preferred, but not essential)
  • Pump test analysis
  • Australian experience and a current ability to work in Australia (citizenship or valid visa) is required
  • Current Australian state driving license preferred.
