Job Summary

The Fabrication Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities related to sheet metal, structural steel, and copper fabrication operations. This position drives operational excellence by ensuring high-quality products are manufactured safely, on time, and within budget. The Fabrication Manager leads strategic planning, capacity alignment, and continuous improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and performance. This role requires a high-energy, self-motivated, and detail-oriented individual with a strong sense of urgency and a commitment to world-class manufacturing standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operational Management: Analyze work orders, BOMs, blueprints, and schedules to determine materials and sequencing. Coordinate fabrication activities, oversee machinery setup and maintenance, and monitor production metrics, labor hours, and performance targets to drive accountability and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Align fabrication capacity with growth objectives. Lead Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and recommend enhancements to equipment, plant layout, and material flow. Propose capital investments to support long-term operational goals.
  • Leadership & People Management: Lead 30–60 employees including supervisors across fabrication and machine shop operations. Train, mentor, and evaluate staff; manage compensation recommendations and employee relations. Enforce safety, OSHA compliance, and company policies while fostering a culture of quality, productivity, and engagement. Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Project Management, Production, and Quality teams.
  • Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Develop and manage departmental budgets (labor, materials, CapEx). Support cost estimation for custom fabrication projects and drive year-over-year cost-efficiency improvements without sacrificing quality.
  • Problem Solving & Compliance: Resolve operational and personnel issues and support team troubleshooting. Ensure compliance with AWS, AISC, and ASTM/ISO standards for welding, steel construction, and coating specifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field preferred — equivalent experience considered.
  • 3–5+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing or metal fabrication.
  • Hands-on knowledge of sheet metal, structural steel, and copper fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Epicor, or similar).
  • Familiarity with AWS, AISC, ASTM, or ISO standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to employees, management, and customers.
  • Comfortable working with production data, metrics, and basic calculations.
  • Practical problem-solver who can manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 40 lbs regularly in a standard manufacturing environment.
