Everyday Speech

Lead Product Designer

Everyday Speech is a no-prep digital curriculum that makes teaching social, behavioral, and communication skills easy and effective. The MTSS-aligned curriculum combines evidence-based video modeling, interactive web games, and worksheets to provide educators everything they need to support both neurodiverse and neurotypical PK-12 students. Everyday Speech is trusted by 50,000+ special educators, speech-language pathologists, counselors, and other specialists for targeted interventions and whole-class lessons that help students build the skills they need to thrive.

Everyday Speech is right for you if:

You care about making a positive impact.

End each day knowing your work directly impacted educators across North America in our mission to build the most impactful PreK-12 social skills curriculum and make teaching it effortless. Success goes beyond shipping features here; we’re improving the lives of educators and their students. To achieve this, we create meaningful content, stay closely connected to our users, and maintain consistently high NPS scores as a fully bootstrapped company growing organically and sustainably.

You value being a part of a company that takes care of its team.

Not only do we have extremely happy team members, we also have incredible perks. Participate in our health/wellness and retirement benefit offerings, and between having every other Friday off (3-day weekends!) and our flexible PTO plan, that elusive work-life balance is an actual thing here. We’ve also never had an office and never will. We take remote work seriously and know how to support a distributed team. We give you the flexibility to work in a way that’s best for you, but still have high standards and accountability. These are just some of the reasons why our eNPS score from 2025 was 78.

You want to be at a company whose values are more than just words on a wall.

Our values are at the forefront of our decisions, how we recognize each other, how we challenge ourselves—everything we do. Our values mean something, and with that guiding light, we are able to land with clarity, create alignment, identify our strengths, and move with purpose. Hear it directly from a team member: “I love the values. I never imagined I could end up in a position that was so connected to the things that mattered to me most”.

As a member of the Product Management and Design Department, the Lead Product Designer will help shape the design vision and user experience across Everyday Speech's PreK-12 instructional platform, and push our product design practice forward, creatively and strategically. You will engage in hands-on design and user research, while also contributing to the broader thinking on UX strategy, design systems, research, and emerging practices. You think at the level of the whole product, not just the feature in front of you. You notice when something feels disconnected from the larger experience, creates friction for users, or falls short of what we're trying to deliver for students and educators — and you take the initiative to address it.

The ideal candidate is extremely values aligned:

We start with empathy— in the work we do and the people we do it with. Our strength comes from a culture that values candidness, trust, and valuing our teammates as whole human beings. We care, challenge, and communicate. We are serious about our responsibility to educators, who rely on us every day.

● We ruthlessly prioritize. We don ’t just say no to the obvious stuff, we say no to the things that feel important in the moment because we understand anything we say yes to is inherently saying no to something else.

We create momentum. We don’t let the small stuff hold us back. We learn by shipping. We know most actions are reversible and that action always wins in the long run. If all else fails, bias towards action.

We are fearlessly objective. We don't do things just because we're "supposed to." We constantly ask "why" and don’t let conventional norms define our efforts. We're not afraid to seek answers, even if that means discovering we were wrong. We focus on what delivers results, regardless of the source.

● We exercise agency. We have the ability to create systems that don’t yet exist to get what we need or to solve problems no one has identified. If something isn’t working, it’s within our control to fix it.

We’re driven to grow. We set ambitious goals because we want to maximize our impact. We embrace challenges and take risks, seeing failures as opportunities to learn and improve. We seek out feedback and coaching and thrive in environments that push us.

Your work will have a significant impact on our product and the experience for every educator and student on the platform.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the product development team's design vision across the entire product, thinking holistically about the user journey, how the platform works, and helping ensure that decisions made across teams and product areas add up to an experience that is intuitive, connected, and coherent for users.
  • Lead design on high-impact initiatives, including large-scale UX rethinks, information architecture work, and new product areas – producing interaction design, prototypes, and final visual design that contributes to the team's high standard of craft.
  • Bring fresh perspectives and proactive creative thinking, identifying UX opportunities and proposing solutions before being asked, and exploring new directions for how the product looks, feels, and works.
  • Lead user research efforts for the team, including study design, usability testing, and synthesis, and build systems that ensure user insights and product analytics flow continuously into design decisions.
  • Contribute to and help mature shared design practices, including design system governance, component libraries, design review processes, accessibility standards (WCAG compliance), and documentation.
  • Lead the team's adoption of AI tools in design workflows, identifying where AI improves speed, quality, or exploration, and helping the team incorporate interactive prototyping and emerging UX practices effectively.
  • Be an engaged, generous teammate, participating actively in design critique, sharing feedback openly, and bringing a collaborative approach to problem-solving across the team.
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners including Product Management, Engineering, Clinical, Content, Marketing, CX, and RevOrg. In a practical sense, this means collaborating with engineering day-to-day to ground design in what is technically feasible and efficient, partnering with Clinical to ensure the product experience truly works for educators and is clinically sound, and supporting RevOrg on internal tooling and admin experiences that simplify complex workflows.
  • Model the kind of design practice we aspire to as a team: explaining your thinking, inviting critique, and caring deeply about the quality of the work.

What We’re Looking For

In addition to values alignment…

  • 7+ years of product design experience, with demonstrated growth into a lead or staff-level role.
  • A portfolio that shows complex, systems-level UX thinking: how you approached ambiguous, hard problems, not just polished screens.
  • Deep proficiency in interaction design, user research, and design systems, with experience in information-dense or instructional products a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to mentor and elevate other designers, with examples of how your feedback has shaped someone else's growth.
  • Comfort with quantitative and qualitative usability methods, product analytics, and using data to make and defend design decisions.
  • Experience with AI-assisted design workflows, interactive prototyping, and a demonstrated interest in staying current on emerging UX practices.
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and clinical stakeholders, and the ability to articulate design rationale in ways that land with each audience.
  • Experience in or strong familiarity with K-12 EdTech, education technology, or similarly complex domain-specific products a plus.

We know great candidates come from a wide range of backgrounds. If you’re passionate about what we’re building at Everyday Speech, don’t hesitate to apply—even if you’re not sure you meet every qualification.

In the short term (the first 3 months), you will:

  • Onboard and become deeply familiar with our product, users, and team practices.
  • Establish strong working relationships with teammates across design, product, engineering, and clinical teams.
  • Develop ownership over key projects and product areas, and begin contributing to design vision and standards.
  • Participate actively in design reviews and begin building peer relationships with the design team.
  • Bring a critical eye to our existing UX and actively participate in ongoing work to elevate the experience and make it more intuitive for users.

In the Long term, you will:

  • Lead the design vision across the platform and drive its evolution through proactive UX thinking and research.
  • Help the product development team continue to raise the bar for craft, process, and creative ambition through your example and collaboration.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for product design innovation that deliver better outcomes for students and educators.
  • Help develop the next generation of designers at Everyday Speech through mentorship and modeling.
