Director of Platform Engineering

Who are Evotix?

We're a growing global EHS SaaS company with a clear ambition: to combine world-class software, data and AI to help our customers operate smarter, safer and more efficiently. For exceptional talent, Evotix offers something rare-the pace of a growth company, the scale to make a real difference, and the opportunity to influence strategy, technology and outcomes at a global level.

At Evotix, we're creating the future of workplace health, safety and wellbeing—and we need ELITE people to help us do it. People who pursue Excellence, show Leadership, deliver Impact, earn Trust, and Empower those around them.

Role purpose

The Director of Platform Engineering is the single accountable owner for the platform and data engineering capabilities used across every product domain in the business. The role consolidates Platform Engineering and Data Platform under one senior leader, and runs those capabilities as internal products with named service expectations, a published roadmap, and a regular review cadence with Domain Directors. This is a new role, created to separate architectural authority from operational delivery. The Chief Architect sets technical direction; this role owns the delivery, reliability, and adoption of the shared capabilities that direction depends on. The two roles are peers.

Reporting and scope

•      Direct reports: Platform Engineering Manager, Data Platform Lead. Indirect organisation of approximately 15 engineers at steady state.

•      Internal customers: Three product domains (360, Assure and Learn) plus internal engineering and operations teams.

•      Peer relationships: Chief Architect, Domain Directors, Product Directors, Head of Business Technology

Key responsibilities

Run shared capabilities as products. Define service expectations, roadmaps, and adoption metrics for Platform Engineering and Data Platform. Be the single named owner for operational performance: incident response, SLOs, capacity, cost-to-serve, and roadmap delivery.

Earn the trust of Domain Directors. Treat domain teams as customers. Establish a regular review cadence with each Domain Director. Where a shared capability is not fit for a domain's needs, lead the work to fix it rather than defending the status quo.

Partner with the Chief Architect. Translate architectural direction (multi-tenancy, AI paved roads, Technology Radar) into deliverable platform capabilities on a documented timeline. Surface implementation realities that should inform the architectural roadmap.

Manage cloud cost. Own the FinOps practice for the platform estate. Drive unit cost down without compromising reliability and give domain teams the visibility they need to manage their own consumption.

Build the team. Coach, develop, and where needed recruit the sub-function leads. Build a team that can operate the function without the Director being the bottleneck for every decision.

What success looks like at twelve months

•      Platform Engineering and Data Platform operate under published service expectations, with a regular review cadence with each Domain Director.

•      Incident response, SLO attainment, and cloud unit cost are tracked, reported, and trending in the right direction.

•      Platform compliance evidence for SOC 2, ISO 27001, and IRAP is generated as a by-product of normal operations rather than as a separate audit project.

•      The two sub-function leads are operating as a coherent leadership team with clear ownership of their domains.

Essential experience

•      Five or more years of engineering leadership, with at least three years owning a platform, infrastructure, or shared services function at director level or above.

•      Demonstrated experience running engineering capabilities as internal products, including setting service expectations, managing roadmaps, and being accountable for adoption.

•      Track record in a multi-product SaaS environment, with credible experience of the trade-offs between centralised platform investment and domain team autonomy.

•      Direct accountability for AWS cloud infrastructure at scale, including FinOps practices and unit cost management.

•      Experience as the engineering owner for at least one of SOC 2, ISO 27001, or an equivalent regulated compliance regime.

•      Track record of building and developing engineering teams, including hiring at managerial level.

Desirable experience

•      Exposure to data platform engineering, including the operational realities of running analytics and data pipelines as a shared capability.

•      Experience in EHS, GRC, or another regulated B2B SaaS domain.

•      Experience leading a transition from federated to centralised shared services, including the change management involved.

How you work

•      Comfortable with productive friction. Architecture and delivery are inherently in tension. You see that tension as where the work gets done, not as a problem to be eliminated.

•      Customer mindset toward internal teams. You earn adoption by being genuinely useful, not by mandate. You would rather change a shared capability than win an argument about it.

•      Operationally credible. You can be in the detail of an incident or a roadmap commitment when the situation requires it, without making yourself the bottleneck for normal operations.

•      Direct. You give and receive feedback clearly, and you are willing to disagree with peers in the room rather than after the meeting.
