About the role

The Maintenance Technician plays a hands-on role in the daily upkeep, functionality, and appearance of Farm & Forge facilities, with a strong focus on strength & conditioning and athletic training environments. This position focuses on general maintenance, preventative care, repairs, equipment support, and physical labor to ensure all training spaces, recovery areas, and athletic environments remain safe, clean, and fully functional for athletes, members, guests, and staff. 


Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role supports day-to-day facility operations, including basic repairs, equipment troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, athletic space upkeep, and operational support. A key component of this role will involve maintaining and supporting strength & conditioning equipment and becoming certified through equipment vendors/providers to perform approved diagnostics, maintenance, and repair procedures for workout and training equipment.

This is a physically active, non-desk role ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, staying moving throughout the day, and taking pride in well-maintained athletic and performance spaces.


What you'll do

  • Perform general maintenance and labor tasks across facilities and athletic spaces
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of strength & conditioning equipment, cardio machines, recovery systems, and training equipment
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and complete required certifications/training for approved equipment maintenance and repair procedures
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and escalate larger repairs when necessary
  • Support installation, movement, setup, and calibration of fitness and training equipment
  • Assist with basic plumbing, lighting, fixtures, and hardware repairs
  • Conduct routine inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
  • Assist with room, event, and athletic space setup and breakdown
  • Maintain locker rooms, recovery areas, common areas, and athletic spaces
  • Support outdoor upkeep, including sidewalks, fencing, driveways, turf areas, and surrounding grounds
  • Clear debris and manage seasonal outdoor needs
  • Operate equipment such as utility vehicles, lifts, tractors, and basic power tools
  • Track completed work and communicate issues to the Maintenance Manager
  • Conduct/assist with HVAC inspections and change filters as needed
  • Perform on-call duties as needed/assigned
  • Ensure all environments remain safe, clean, organized, and fully operational
  • Follow all safety standards, operational procedures, and manufacturer requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred
  • 2+ years of hands-on maintenance, facilities, mechanical, fitness equipment, or general labor experience preferred
  • Experience working with fitness equipment, athletic facilities, or commercial exercise systems is strongly preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues independently
  • Willingness to complete vendor-specific certifications and training programs related to strength & conditioning equipment maintenance and repair
  • Basic working knowledge of building systems and tools
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to safely operate equipment and tools
  • Active Tennessee trade licensure, including HVAC mechanical licensing or EPA 608 certification, is preferred for advanced-level candidates
  • Candidates must comply with all Tennessee contractor and mechanical regulations applicable to the scope of work performed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor indoors and outdoors
  • Work from ladders
  • Stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods of time
  • Work in indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying temperatures and conditions
  • Reliable, dependable, adaptable, and able to work independently
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Willingness to assist across a wide range of operational and facility needs
  • Availability for occasional after-hours or emergency needs

Compensation

This position is structured across three levels with target hourly ranges based on experience, scope of responsibility, technical capability, and demonstrated skill level.

  • Level I (Entry/Developing): $21.50–$23.00
  • Level II (Experienced/Independent): $23.50–$26.50
  • Level III (Senior/Lead-Capable): $27.00–$29.00

Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant certifications, equipment expertise, licensure, and overall experience.

Candidates who hold active, role-relevant licenses or certifications, including but not limited to EPA 608, state mechanical licensure, advanced HVAC certifications, or manufacturer/vendor equipment certifications, may be considered for placement within the upper end of the range or for additional compensation, commensurate with qualifications and organizational need.

This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law.
