Frontier Direct

Registered Nurse

Frontier Direct delivers direct primary care (DPC) to employer-sponsored patient populations. Our providers manage a defined patient panel with an emphasis on continuity, preventive care, and chronic disease management — a model built around lower daily patient volume and longer visit times than traditional fee-for-service primary care.

Position Summary

We're hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to work directly alongside our Primary Care Provider (PCP) and Medical Assistant (MA) as the clinical connective tissue that keeps the clinic running smoothly for members. You'll be one of the first clinical voices many of our members hear — triaging phone calls, texts, emails, and walk-ins with calm, confident judgment — and you'll triage acute, same-day needs within your scope of practice so PCPs can stay focused on their scheduled panel. You'll also support the MA team with phlebotomy, injections, IVs, and procedure setup, and help keep the day's workflow organized through task coordination. This role does not have direct reports, but is a key point of coordination and delegation for the clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the clinic's primary triage resource — assess symptoms via phone, text, email, and walk-ins; route to same-day visit, PCP escalation, self-care, or emergency services
  • Evaluate/triage acute, same-day needs within RN scope (assessments, wound checks, dressing changes); escalate to PCP when needed; document all interactions in the EHR
  • Support the MA with phlebotomy, IV placement, injections (IM/SQ), point-of-care testing, and procedure/chairside assistance
  • Support coverage as needed for continuity of care, help manage clinical supply/medication inventory, and provide clinical supervision and support for the MAs.

Qualifications

  • Active, unencumbered Texas Registered Nurse license (RN), in good standing with the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in ER, Urgent care, hospital, primary care and/or family practice.
  • Outpatient, clinic based experience, familiarity with clinic operations, preferred
  • Extensive, hands-on experience triaging patients across multiple channels — phone, email, text, and in-person walk-ins
  • Demonstrated ability to stay calm, organized, and solutions-focused under pressure, especially during high patient volume or urgent situations
  • Working knowledge of clinic flow, patient care coordination, and how triage, MA, and provider roles work together
  • Hands-on proficiency in phlebotomy, IV placement, injections (IM/SQ), and point-of-care testing
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills — able to make members feel cared for in every interaction, by phone, text, email, and in person
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and scheduling software
  • Active BLS certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Experience delegating and coordinating tasks with MAs without formal supervisory authority
  • Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the clinic as needed, and occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Direct Primary Care (DPC), concierge medicine, or membership-based clinic model
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience managing care across the lifespan (pediatric through geriatric)
  • Prior experience mentoring or informally guiding MAs or other clinical staff
  • Additional procedural training or certification (e.g., EKG, wound care)
