Safety Specialist

Job Summary

GTS Transportation is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Safety Specialist to join our transportation and logistics team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for promoting a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with transportation safety regulations, and supporting daily operational safety initiatives. This role requires strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and a proactive approach to accident prevention and regulatory compliance.

Employment Type & Schedule: Full-time, 100% in-office. Shift options: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM CDT or 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CDT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and enforce compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety regulations
  • Conduct Audits & Inspections: Perform safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments for drivers, vehicles, and facilities
  • Investigate Incidents: Investigate accidents, incidents, and safety violations; prepare detailed reports and corrective action plans
  • Maintain Records: Maintain driver qualification files, safety records, and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate Training: Coordinate driver safety training, orientation, and ongoing educational programs
  • Monitor HOS/ELD: Monitor driver logs, hours of service (HOS), and ELD compliance
  • Communicate Policy: Communicate with drivers and management regarding safety procedures and policy updates
  • Develop Safety Programs: Assist in developing and implementing company safety programs and procedures
  • Track Metrics: Track and report safety metrics, violations, and trends using computerized systems and Excel
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with dispatch, operations, and management teams to improve overall workplace safety

Qualifications & Skills

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and transportation safety regulations
  • Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced logistics environment
  • Technical: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and computerized safety/compliance systems
  • Communication: Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records with strong analytical skills
  • Experience: Experience with driver safety management, compliance monitoring, or transportation operations preferred
