About the role

The Clinical Director leads all clinical programming at an Ignitus Recovery facility, ensuring that services for adults with substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders are evidence-based, trauma-informed, person-centered, and measurably effective. This is both a clinical leadership role and a builder role: the Clinical Director develops new programs, builds and supervises the clinical team, establishes clinical systems, and works with executive and interdisciplinary leaders to translate the organization’s mission into high-quality care and strong client outcomes.

  • Schedule: M-F (after hours and on call as needed)

What you'll do

  • 1. Clinical Leadership & Program Development
  • Lead clinical programming across the facility’s levels of care, translating organizational strategy into treatment models, workflows, staffing structures, and standards of care.
  • Lead the design and launch of new programs, groups, treatment tracks, and levels of care from concept through implementation and evaluation, while maintaining evidence-based practice, ASAM fidelity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve on the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to organizational strategy, culture, and growth.

2. Clinical Oversight & Quality of Care

  • Oversee assessment, treatment planning, level-of-care decisions, transitions, and discharge planning to ensure individualized, trauma-informed, integrated care for substance use, mental health, and co-occurring conditions.
  • Lead case consultation for complex and high-risk clinical situations and serve as the facility’s clinical escalation point, including after-hours on-call as scheduled.
  • Set clinical documentation standards and ensure programming meets the expectations of the specialty populations and referral sources the facility serves.

3. Measurement-Based Care & Quality Improvement

  • Lead measurement-based care using validated outcome measures, and use outcome and client-experience data to evaluate and improve programming.
  • Establish and monitor clinical KPIs, including documentation timeliness, clinical outcomes, client engagement, retention, and successful completion, with attention to reducing AMA/ACA discharges.
  • Lead the clinical components of quality improvement, chart audits, incident reviews, and corrective-action plans.

4. Staff Leadership, Supervision & Development

  • Recruit, onboard, supervise, evaluate, and retain clinical staff, and determine appropriate clinical staffing structures as programs grow.
  • Provide clinical supervision, including supervision and documentation co-signature for license candidates and interns as required by Colorado regulations.
  • Set clear roles and expectations, address performance concerns promptly and consistently, and develop emerging clinical leaders.

5. Program Operations & Collaboration

  • Oversee clinical schedules, group programming, milieu structure, caseload assignments, and daily client flow, and participate in census, staffing, utilization review, and capacity planning.
  • Partner with medical, nursing, admissions, operations, and recovery support leaders to deliver integrated care and resolve operational barriers.

6. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Maintain clinical programming consistent with Colorado Behavioral Health Administration requirements, ASAM criteria, Joint Commission standards, payer requirements, and organizational policies, and keep the facility survey-ready.
  • Ensure adherence to scope-of-practice and supervision requirements, client rights, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, mandatory reporting, and safety protocols.
  • Partner with compliance and executive leadership to identify and address clinical risk.

  • Leads relationally: visible and approachable to frontline staff, builds trust through consistency and follow-through, gives direct feedback while preserving dignity, and models the boundaries and accountability expected in client care.
  • Operates comfortably in a growing organization, moving between strategy and hands-on problem-solving and balancing innovation with clinical integrity and safety.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or higher in a behavioral health discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted independent Colorado behavioral health license (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or licensed psychologist) at time of hire, and eligibility to serve as a clinical supervisor under Colorado requirements.
  • At least five (5) years of progressive post-master’s clinical experience in behavioral health, including substance use disorder treatment.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership and supervisory experience, including developing, implementing, or improving clinical programs.
  • Working knowledge of ASAM criteria, trauma-informed care, clinical documentation standards, and behavioral health regulatory and accreditation requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) credential.
  • Experience launching a new program, level of care, or facility, or working in a start-up or high-growth environment.
  • Experience across residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient levels of care.
  • Experience serving executive/professional or young adult populations.
  • Experience implementing measurement-based care and outcome systems, and leading Joint Commission or Colorado BHA surveys.
