Senior Accountant, Fund Management

Who Are We?

At CMLS Financial, we strike a unique balance: the financial strength of a 50-year industry leader with the energy of a dynamic, fast-paced firm.

  • Growth & Exposure: With over $45 billion in assets under administration, our "booming" business means you gain high-level exposure and real opportunities for career advancement.
  • Supportive Culture: We are professional yet enjoyable. We provide a challenging environment supported by a team that wants you to succeed.
  • National Reach: Work with Canada’s most prominent banks, investment managers, and pension funds from a platform with offices coast to coast.

As our investment vehicles grow in complexity, we need a Senior Accountant who wants to do more than just follow a checklist. You will own the day-to-day operations for the CMLS Mortgage Fund, serving as the technical expert for a $250M+ portfolio while identifying ways to sharpen our workflows as the fund continues to scale.

Where You’ll Make An Impact:

  • Lead the Fund Lifecycle: Take full ownership of the monthly accounting cycle for the CMLS Mortgage Fund, including NAV calculations, investor distributions, and management fee tracking.
  • Fiduciary Stewardship: Manage high-stakes regulatory filings and external client reporting, ensuring the fund maintains its status and adheres to all compliance standards for public money.
  • Investment Management: Oversee the flow of funds through Fundserv and direct intermediaries, applying specific mutual fund trust logic to every transaction.
  • CAML Corporate Reporting: Drive the financial reporting for CMLS Asset Management, providing senior leadership with accurate cash flow forecasts and AUM-based earnings analysis.
  • Audit Leadership: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and investor due diligence, ensuring all documentation is verified and audit-ready.

What We Value:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • While a CPA designation is preferred, we welcome candidates who are actively pursuing their certification.
  • Four (4) years of experience in accounting or finance, with a strong preference for experience in fund management, real estate, or financial services.
  • You don't just flag a problem; you stay with it until the numbers balance and the stakeholders have the answers they need.
  • A team player who loves sharing knowledge and brainstorming, but possesses the discipline to own your commitments and the ability to deliver results independently.
  • You possess a natural instinct for identifying inconsistencies in complex datasets and the persistence to investigate the "why" behind the numbers.
  • You are tech-savvy and comfortable with Microsoft Excel and navigating accounting ERP systems, with prior experience in Microsoft Business Central being an asset.

Supporting Your Life at CMLS:

  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive insurance (Drug, Vision, Dental) & Health and Wellness Spending Accounts.
  • Mental Support: 24/7 unlimited access to telemedicine, EAP, and mental health services for you and your family.
  • Time Off: 4 weeks paid vacation, plus personal/sick days and all statutory holidays.
  • Future Planning: RRSP Matching Program to help you build long-term wealth.
  • Family Support: Robust Maternity and Parental Leave Top-Up programs.
  • Professional Growth: Education reimbursement, mentoring, and continuous training.
