Careers at Soluna

MBA Intern, Strategy & Development

Soluna is on a mission to solve one of renewable energy’s biggest challenges: wasted power. Our data centers convert excess solar, hydro, and wind energy into productive computational work, such as Bitcoin mining, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. By co-locating with renewable power sources, we bring demand directly to the source, helping power plants increase revenue while contributing more megawatts to the grid.

We are looking for an MBA Intern, Development & Strategy to join our world-class team.

The Opportunity

Soluna's growth depends on finding the right sites before anyone else does. Every week, inbound leads arrive from independent power producers, renewable developers, landowners, and brokers — and our team sources many more. Most of them will not work. A small number are exceptional. The difference between the two is a disciplined screen: is there curtailed or low-cost power, is there a credible path to interconnection, is there land, fiber, and water, and does the arithmetic clear our return threshold?

This internship owns the front end of that funnel. You will take raw leads, run them through Soluna's qualification criteria, build a first-pass economic screen, and produce a clear recommendation on whether the opportunity advances to full diligence or gets a fast, well-reasoned no. The modeling is deliberately light — enough to size the opportunity and pressure-test the assumptions, not a full project finance build. Speed and judgment matter more than precision at this stage.

This is a high-ownership role on a small team: your screens will be read by the people who decide where Soluna builds next.

What You'll Do

Lead Qualification & Screening

  • Run inbound and sourced leads through Soluna's qualification framework — power cost and curtailment profile, interconnection status and queue position, land control, fiber and water availability, and counterparty credibility.
  • Produce a standard one-page qualification summary for each lead so the team can make a go / no-go call quickly and consistently.
  • Recommend advance, park, or pass on every opportunity you touch, with the reasoning written down — including the reasoning behind the passes.
  • Maintain the lead intake queue so nothing sits unreviewed and the team always knows what is waiting.

Light Financial Modeling

  • Build first-pass economic screens for qualified sites — estimated cost of power, capacity sizing, indicative capex, and top-line return.
  • Run sensitivities on the variables that actually move the answer, such as energy price, curtailment hours, hashprice or contracted AI/HPC revenue, and time to energization.
  • Pressure-test counterparty assumptions against market data and flag where a lead's claims are not supported by the underlying economics.
  • Keep the screening model clean and reusable so the team can run it without you after the internship ends.

Market & Pipeline Intelligence

  • Track opportunities across ERCOT, SPP, MISO, and PJM, including interconnection queue movement and curtailment trends that create new leads.
  • Update the pipeline tracker and executive summary so leadership has a current view of what is in the funnel and where it stands.
  • Research specific markets, utilities, or counterparties on demand to support live deal conversations.
  • Present a summer project to the Development & Strategy team and senior leadership — a durable improvement to how Soluna screens and qualifies opportunities.

What You Bring

Required

  • Currently enrolled in an MBA program, with an expected graduation date following the internship period.
  • Strong Excel modeling skills — comfortable building a screening model from a blank sheet, not just editing someone else's.
  • Demonstrated analytical judgment: the ability to reach a defensible answer with incomplete information and say clearly what you do not know.
  • Clear, concise written communication; you can compress a complicated opportunity into one page a busy executive will actually read.
  • Genuine interest in energy, digital infrastructure, or the intersection of the two.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in energy, infrastructure, project finance, investment banking, private equity, or corporate development.
  • Familiarity with U.S. wholesale power markets, interconnection processes, or renewable project development.
  • Exposure to market data platforms such as Orennia, Velocity Suite, or similar.
  • Working knowledge of Bitcoin mining economics or AI/HPC data center demand drivers.
  • Comfort building in PowerPoint for investor- and board-facing audiences.
