Senior Technical (Rendering) Engineer

We’re Squanch Games!

Squanch Games was birthed into our mortal world in 2016. Since then we’ve released several laugh-out-loud interactive experiences that have captured the hearts and minds of debaucherous gamers the world over.

If you’ve ended up here, then perhaps you consider yourself a little “Squanchy.” One who is Squanchy has the courage to plunder the depths of madness for joy in its most pure and irreverent essence. Some say it’s a curse. Others, a blessing.

In our humble opinion, to be Squanchy is to truly live. Sounds fun, doesn't it?

Engineering Department: Senior Technical (Rendering) Engineer

As a Senior Technical Engineer at Squanch Games, you will be our rendering and engine code expert. Every day, you will be the go-to for the optimization of the project’s rendering and memory usage as well as working as part of a cross-disciplinary team to build complex gameplay systems. But you know that already! You’ve successfully done this role at another studio, and now you’re looking for a role with a diverse set of responsibilities and a supportive, close-knit team.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with each department to identify optimization and performance concerns related to their work and address them.
  • Diagnose performance problems related to memory usage and rendering.
  • Develop automated tests to validate that the project is staying within specified asset and memory budgets.
  • Overhaul engine-level code when necessary to optimize the rendering pipeline.
  • Solve difficult and multi-faceted problems with a willingness to track down answers when no solutions are readily available.
  • Prototype complex features and suggest improvements that would streamline development.
  • Collaboratively design, implement, and refine a variety of systemic features and tools for different departments.
  • Maintain constant contact with other departments so that their feedback is properly taken into account.
  • Provide support and mentorship to other engineers; take time to answer questions, review code, and build up the skill sets of other members on the team.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working on console or PC games in the Unreal Engine through a full development cycle, from pre-production to release as an Engineer.
  • Significant experience with rendering pipelines and algorithms, as well as experience on gameplay systems.
  • Experience working directly in unreal shader files.
  • Well-versed in performance profiling, graphics debugging, and memory optimization using tools such as PIX, RenderDoc, etc.
  • Profile Experience diagnosing difficult graphics problems.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D math such as vectors, matrixes, and quaternions.
  • Strong C++ skills and experience architecting and maintaining low-level game systems.
  • Multi-threaded programming experience.
  • Experience writing functional and performant multi-platform code covering PC and major consoles.
  • Adept communication skills, especially cross-discipline, with the ability to break down technical concepts in an understandable way for non-technical departments.
  • Experience with writing in-depth documentation that is clear for non-engineers.
  • You have a passion for games: you know what's going on in the world of games, and can't wait to talk with others about it!

Benefits:

  • Salary range: $156,000 to $187,200, depending on experience
  • Health, dental & vision insurance with dependent coverage
  • Short term & long term disability insurance coverage
  • FSA & Dependent Care FSA
