Construction Superintendent – Buttonwood Estate

TMC Hospitality, LLC | Santa Ynez Valley, CA

TMC Group, LLC is seeking a best-in-class Construction Superintendent to lead the field execution of a highly detailed private estate project at our ranch and vineyard development in the Santa Ynez Valley.

This role is for a builder’s builder: someone who has successfully delivered high-end custom homes, understands the level of precision expected in $10M–$20M+ residential work, and can own the jobsite with discipline, taste, urgency, and accountability.

Role Overview

The Superintendent will be responsible for day-to-day field leadership, schedule execution, trade coordination, quality control, safety, and problem-solving on a custom estate build that will require both technical rigor and aesthetic judgment. This person will work closely with ownership, the project manager, architect, designers, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure the home is built to an exceptional standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own daily jobsite operations, sequencing, trade coordination, and field execution.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional construction site.
  • Drive the project schedule and proactively identify delays, conflicts, or long-lead risks.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, consultants, and internal team members.
  • Review drawings, details, specifications, shop drawings, and field conditions for constructability.
  • Ensure all work meets the highest standards for craftsmanship, alignment, finish quality, and durability.
  • Manage framing, waterproofing, MEP coordination, exterior assemblies, interiors, finishes, millwork, stone, tile, steel, glazing, and landscape/interface details.
  • Document field issues, RFIs, changes, inspections, and daily progress.
  • Protect the owner’s interests by enforcing quality, cost awareness, and accountability from every trade.
  • Anticipate issues before they become expensive or schedule-impacting problems.
  • Represent TMC Group with professionalism, calm authority, and pride in the finished product.

Ideal Candidate

  • 10+ years of construction experience, with significant experience on luxury custom homes.
  • Prior superintendent experience on estate-level residential projects, ideally in Montecito, Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez, Malibu, Napa, or comparable high-end markets.
  • Deep knowledge of high-end residential construction means and methods.
  • Strong understanding of structure, waterproofing, MEP coordination, finish sequencing, and custom detailing.
  • Ability to read plans, details, specifications, schedules, and consultant drawings fluently.
  • Excellent trade management skills; respected by subs but not afraid to hold them accountable.
  • Calm, organized, direct, and highly detail-oriented.
  • Strong aesthetic judgment and pride in craftsmanship.
  • Comfortable working directly with ownership and senior leadership.
  • No ego, no chaos, no shortcuts.

What Success Looks Like

  • The project is clean, organized, safe, and moving every day.
  • Trades are well-coordinated and held to a luxury standard.
  • Problems are surfaced early with practical solutions.
  • Details are built correctly the first time.
  • Ownership has confidence that the field is being managed by someone who truly cares.
  • The finished home feels timeless, precise, and worthy of the Buttonwood property.
