Job Overview

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the design and development of cutting‑edge mechanical systems that push the boundaries of performance, reliability and innovation. If you thrive on solving complex engineering challenges, enjoy hands‑on development, and bring creativity and strong engineering judgement to your work, this role will be an excellent fit.  You’ll influence products from clean‑sheet concept through to production, working in an environment with onsite manufacturing and test facilities. You’ll have advanced tools and autonomy to deliver meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean-sheet mechanical design and development. Predominantly relating to rotating electrical machines, transmissions and drivetrains but may also include pumps, fans, power electronics and batteries as required.
  • Lead concept development, prototyping and validation activities.
  • Mechanical analysis of conceptual designs (including CAE), demonstrating a strong understanding of likely component failure modes and material strengths.
  • Build and test of prototype hardware and test rigs as necessary.
  • Support delivery of industry-leading products from concept through to production
  • Individually lead or contribute as a senior member within a team to deliver projects to internal or customer specifications.
  • Utilisation of best-in-class simulation software as part of the development process to optimise and analyse product behaviour.
  • 3D CAD modelling and 2D engineering drawings of components and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, test, and supply chain
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry quality and regulatory standards
  • Develop and mentor junior engineers.

The Requirements

  • Strong capability in 3D CAD modelling and 2D engineering drawings
  • Experience using analytical methods (hand calculations and/or CAE tools such as ANSYS or Matlab)
  • Proven experience applying DFM, DFA, DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Experience working with and managing external suppliers

Qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Relevant experience could be considered

Bonus Points

It would be beneficial (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:

  • Strong experience in mechanical design engineering
  • Autodesk inventor and/or Solidworks experience
  • Working knowledge of MASTA or KISSsoft software
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing - gravity or high-pressure casting part design
  • Directly relevant design experience (previous motor, gear, transmission, spline or bearing life calculation experience)
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment
