Ursa Health

Analytics Engineer

About Ursa Health

We're Ursa Health, an 11-year-old, growth stage company. We straddle the line between being a software company and a tech-enabled consultancy, turning healthcare data into actionable insights. We've developed our healthcare data platform over the last decade combining deep industry IP with a flexible and powerful software product. Thanks to our unique, methodical approach, we're able to make sense of data in a way nobody else in the industry is able to – generating analytics that are trusted enough to change how care is delivered.

We're not talking about fancy black-box models or AI agents, although we do that too. Simply the work of taking healthcare data in its messy, raw format and turning it into results that accurately describe what is actually happening to patients; very few organizations can do this well. And, because of that, we serve as the core data and analytics engine for many of the most innovative companies in healthcare.

We're growing our team and are looking for engineers who can straddle this line between a software company and a consultancy. It's in our DNA that the people building our software products should also be on the front line of client-facing work. It's a hybrid role, and you'll have to be comfortable billing hourly on idiosyncratic client deliverables. But you'll also be channeling that work back into our software products, including our longstanding Ursa Studio and our newer AI-assisted tools like Compass and Sentinel.

Ursa Health is fully remote. We've been fully remote since our founding and have a strong remote-only culture. Hours are flexible. You'll be able – and indeed expected – to turn off Slack for hours at a time in order to get into a flow to solve the most difficult problems.

We believe in a very human application process — and are leaning further into this given the volume of AI-generated and fraudulent applications we're seeing across the industry. If you want to apply to join our team, submit your complete application including current personal contact information, an updated LinkedIn profile, and an updated CV. Qualified candidates will be asked to submit a 2-minute intro video and complete a technical puzzle, which shouldn't take more than a couple hours. The puzzle is drawn straight from our work and will give you an honest sense of the real-life challenges you'll be expected to tackle. After that, you'll interview with our team. We look forward to learning about your experience, getting to know you as a person, and giving you a real window into life at Ursa.

We're excited to meet candidates who are already authorized to work in the U.S., as we are currently unable to provide visa sponsorship.

Ursa Health is an equal opportunity employer. We are passionate about achieving diversity on our team because we know that different backgrounds and points of view fuel innovation and creativity, and will therefore help us reach our goal of making healthcare better and more equitable for all. We foster an inclusive environment where we can celebrate our differences. We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply to this and all of our open positions. All applicants will be considered for employment without consideration of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.

About the Role

Role Department: Delivery

Reports to: AVP, Analytics Engineering

The Analytics Engineer role is ideal for an experienced analytics professional eager to put their healthcare domain knowledge and data modeling expertise to work in a highly collaborative and mission-driven environment. As an Analytics Engineer at Ursa Health, you’ll help develop and deliver impactful analytics solutions that accelerate clinical, operational and financial insights for our clients and fuel the evolution of our platform.

Your work will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between raw data and end-user analysis by extending the Ursa Core Data Model and enabling clients to act on data faster and with greater confidence. You will partner closely with Customer Success Managers, Data Engineers, Product Managers, and other cross-functional teams to define needs, scope solutions, and ensure client and product value is realized from every analytics engineering engagement. You'll also work alongside the team building our newest AI-assisted products, contributing the domain knowledge and data modeling judgment that makes those tools actually work.

The role sits at the intersection of client delivery and innovation. The best candidates bring the consulting instincts to meet clients where they are, and the engineering rigor to build solutions that outlast the engagement.

About You

  • You are an experienced analytics professional with a deep understanding of healthcare data.
  • You thrive in client-facing work, where the ability to listen, push back thoughtfully, and translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders is just as important as what you build.
  • You’re a problem-solver who enjoys shaping solutions from a “blank canvas,” applying a methodical and creative approach to analytics engineering challenges.
  • You believe in the value of reusable assets and want to contribute not just to client success, but to Ursa’s portfolio of solutions that can serve many clients.
  • You've worked with AI tools and have developed a clear-eyed sense of where they help and where they don't — especially in a domain where the cost of a wrong answer is high.
  • You want to be part of something mission-driven, and you're comfortable with the ambiguity that comes with a small, fast-moving team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver client-specific analytics solutions: Use Ursa Studio to develop, implement, and maintain Synthetic Objects, Data Marts, and measures tailored to client needs that enable rapid insight and drive operational and clinical impact.
  • Partner with Customer Success: Collaborate with Technical Customer Success Managers and leadership to scope, plan, manage, and support analytics engineering workstreams with clients, including multi-month embedded engagements and ad hoc initiatives.
  • Consult and train clients: Provide hands-off-keyboard expertise in analytics engineering using Ursa Studio, including technical scoping, advisory consulting, and training on best-practice analytics workflows using Ursa’s platform. Effectively balance being responsive to client requests with building better solutions based on our experience and expertise.
  • Contribute to Ursa product/cross-client solutions: Build scalable, high-impact data models and analytics components that enhance Ursa's SaaS platform and marketplace, making powerful analytic tools accessible to all clients.
  • Thoughtfully work with AI-assisted tooling : Leverage AI tools (including internally developed Ursa Compass) and capabilities to accelerate and improve our delivery approach, appropriately apply the domain knowledge and human intelligence to ensure sound output.
  • Ensure high-quality written and verbal communication: Clearly document solution approaches and final deliverables for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain standards and security: Stay current with healthcare data regulations and Ursa’s privacy and security policies, including HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 4+ years of experience working with healthcare data in analytics, engineering, or consulting roles.

  • Proven experience in building and managing reusable analytics models and data products.
  • Experience working directly with clients in scoping, delivery, and support of technical solutions.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL and analytics tools/platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Subject matter expertise spanning population health, HCC/risk adjustment, value-based care models, and quality measurement programs including HEDIS, PQA, Stars, MSSP, and MIPS.
  • Experience in analytics model governance, versioning, and documentation best practices.
  • Experience working with AI tools in a professional context, with the judgment to apply them appropriately.
  • Familiarity with Ursa Studio or similar no-code/low-code data platforms.
  • Experience training or mentoring analysts or engineers.
