Facilities Engineer

We seek to add an experienced, highly accountable team member to plan, execute, and support WESTPAK's growth plan towards the opening of our Boston Facility. The Facilities Engineer is responsible for supporting the facilities of functions, including Building Maintenance, Equipment, and Operations.  Areas of generalist responsibility include but are not limited to the following areas: water chiller/water treatment, air compressors, HVAC maintenance and repair, janitorial services, building alarms and security, forklift maintenance, electrical, plumbing, paint and contract painters, pest control, office & furniture moves, and data cabling and IT support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned as needed)

Equipment Maintenance

  • Schedule, maintain, and complete preventative equipment maintenance as documented by QMS.
  • Provide general support on site’s HVAC system and water-cooling system. Conduct minor preventative maintenance.
  • Produce, install, and troubleshooting equipment, determining the next actions to address corrective actions.
  • Communication on status of projects, meetings with suppliers, initiatives and issues is timely, proactive and professional.  Create, define, and write process documentation, written work instructions, and PM schedule and documentation to support the Quality Management System. 

Calibration and Validation

  • Ensure WESTPAK’s Quality Management System (QMS), including calibration procedures, are held to the highest standards with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Interpret and understand all common ISO 17025 calibration requirements as well as ASTM, ISTA, ETSI, and related specs as pertaining to WESTPAK testing.
  • Develop and write complex calibration procedures and forms.
  • Provide technical support to the technology developer team by transferring calibration processes into a digital platform to ensure scope of compliance.
  • Oversee and conduct safe and efficient operation, calibration, quality checks, and verification as well as operational qualification (OQ) and performance qualification (PQ) of all pieces of test equipment and instrumentation at the specified location. Capable of instructing other Calibration Engineers to do the same.

Safety, Facilities and Operation

  • Facilities are clean, safe, and secure with essential systems regularly checked and documented so that we can meet customer expectations 24/7/365 days per year.
  • Coordinate and manage Outside Vendor services, while ensuring the work is being done appropriately and properly to scope and code.  Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to follow up.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, Power, and Safety procedures and the ability to apply them.
  • Coordinate Safety training for Forklift, Lockout Tagout, ERT through vendors.
  • Conduct root-cause investigation and corrective action plans for critical systems failure.
  • Develop and maintain process flows and work plans that will standardize work processes.
  • Support Environmental Health & Safety activities to ensure a safe workplace for WESTPAK employees.

 General Building Maintenance

  • Manage building facilities, utilities, and grounds through documentation and further recommendations regarding options and risks to moving forward.
  • On-call 24/7 for security, alarms, leaks, monitoring systems, emergency disasters, etc. during weekends and holidays (plan arrangements when out of town).  Act as first responder when incidents require action.
  • Coordinates and supports all janitorial and floor cleaning and window washing schedules and works with leadership team to communicate scheduling and adjust as needed to business priorities.
  • Drive facility-wide cleanliness and 5S.
  • Professionally manage and maintain documentation for all facilities vendors and their work.
  • Provide or subcontract facilities maintenance services in a timely, professional, and cost-effective manner with close involvement of the leadership team.
  • Coordinates incoming and outgoing shipments by verifying shipment information, preparing packages, applying labels, and maintaining accurate shipping records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provides responsive customer service and communication to internal and external customers, including coordinating client shipping requirements and supporting post-testing activities.
  • Maintains shipping materials and inventory, routes items to appropriate departments, and operates material-handling equipment such as forklifts and hand trucks as needed.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to Quality Management System, 5S, and all applicable shipping and handling procedures.
  • This position is anticipated to be a fully onsite role.

Requirements for Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management or related degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on facilities management experience, with a strong focus on mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, and facility infrastructure support.
  • General understanding and working knowledge on HVAC, compressor, vacuum, cooling tower systems.
  • Basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical skills to perform facilities and equipment repairs.
  • Tool proficiency: Intermediate level of proficiency with power tools is desired. Hand tools, and willingness to learn tools is a must. 
  • Basic knowledge of electrical work.
  • Previous experience in project management and working successfully as the sole contact point. 
  • Experience with effective facilities management through ticketing system software.
  • Effective documentation practices and willingness to use project management software including Confluence & JIRA.

Currently anticipated salary range of $95,000 – 115,000 per year with company-wide bonus incentive and Employee Stock Ownership Participation.
