About North Cloud

The public cloud is rapidly evolving, with businesses investing over $200 billion annually in cloud technology. As AI accelerates demand for scalable infrastructure, cloud costs are soaring, and most teams still rely on spreadsheets to manage them.

At North, we’re building the next-generation cloud, AI, and data spend management platform. We give companies real-time visibility, control, and automation over their digital asset finances so they can grow efficiently without wasting time or money.

Backed by top-tier investors and trusted by companies managing complex cloud environments, North is building the financial operating system for the public cloud.

About the role

Customers make financial decisions from the numbers North shows them, so our software has to work correctly and our numbers have to be accurate. You'll join the Experience team and own the test strategy and frameworks every engineer at North uses. You'll set the patterns, build the tooling, and keep the test suite fast and balanced. For now, the role is a mix, and hands-on manual verification is still part of it. Engineers still test their own work. Your job is to make the right way to test the easy way, so testing well is part of how every team ships.

We're hiring for this role without a fixed level. We'll level you based on experience and on how you work, using our engineering ladder.

What you'll do

  • Own North's end-to-end test framework and how it runs in CI.
  • Set test strategy across unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and keep the suite balanced and fast.
  • Build tooling that makes it easy for every team to write and maintain tests for the features they own.
  • Strengthen how we validate releases before they reach customers.
  • Manually verify releases and high-risk changes where automated coverage doesn't reach yet, and use what you find to decide what to automate next.
  • Help teams test data accuracy, not just whether the UI works.
  • Find and fix flaky tests, turn recurring gaps into framework improvements, and track the health of the suite over time.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience as a software engineer focused on testing, test infrastructure, or developer productivity.
  • Strong experience with browser end-to-end frameworks such as Playwright.
  • Ability to write production-quality code in TypeScript and Python.
  • Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Judgment about what to test, at which level, and what not to test.
  • Experience with manual and exploratory testing, and comfort doing it alongside automation.
  • Pragmatic, informed use of AI coding tools, including for writing and maintaining tests.
  • Clear communication, and the ability to raise the quality bar without slowing teams down.

Nice to Have

  • Experience testing data-heavy or financial applications.
  • Experience with test data management and environment setup.
  • Experience with visual regression or contract testing.
  • Familiarity with FinOps concepts.
