Job Description:
The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) serves as a strategic and operational partner to the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for overseeing all financial management, planning, reporting, and compliance functions of the organization. This leader will guide the development of scalable financial infrastructure, ensure fiscal integrity, and enable informed decision-making across the business.
The role requires a balance of strategic foresight and hands-on execution, overseeing accounting operations, financial planning and analysis, and compliance with federal contracting requirements. The Director of FP&A will support a cohesive, high-performing finance team that supports the company’s growth trajectory and mission objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Finance Leadership
- Partner with the CFO and executive leadership to align financial strategy with organizational priorities and long-term growth objectives.
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning, ensuring transparency and accuracy across all departments.
- Provide strategic financial insights to support investment decisions, capital allocation, and resource prioritization.
- Support the CFO in financial presentations to the Board, investors, and senior leadership.
- Support due diligence and integration activities related to mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships.
- Develop business cases and ROI analyses to support major organizational initiatives and investments.
Financial Management and Reporting
- Oversee the preparation, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial statements, reports, and forecasts.
- Maintain financial controls, accounting policies, and reporting standards consistent with GAAP and applicable federal contracting regulations.
- Analyze operating results and key performance indicators to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Manage financial close and audit readiness in partnership with the Director of Accounting.
- Oversee Innovas cash management and financial services relationships, ensuring sufficient liquidity and effective cash utilization to meet programmatic and investment needs.
- Manage the company’s capital structure and support the CFO in evaluating financing and investment strategies.
- Establish and monitor key financial metrics (KPIs) to measure financial health and operational performance.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Analysis
- Direct company-wide budgeting processes, collaborating with department heads to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Lead financial modeling and scenario planning to assess business decisions, pricing structures, and program profitability.
- Develop tools and dashboards to monitor financial performance and inform leadership decision-making.
- Support program-level financial reporting for government contracts, including compliance with FAR, DFARS, and CAS standards.
- Integrate data from accounting, operations, and contracts systems to create a unified view of performance and profitability.
Compliance and Controls
- Ensure adherence to federal contracting, audit, and compliance requirements.
- Oversee internal controls, risk management, and accounting practices to safeguard company assets.
- Support external audits and maintain readiness for regulatory or financial reviews.
- Ensure compliance with tax reporting, indirect rate structures, and all applicable state and federal financial regulations.
- Coordinate annual audits and interface with external auditors, maintaining readiness for regulatory or partner reviews.
- Lead periodic internal audits and risk assessments to evaluate and strengthen control environments.
Systems and Process Optimization
- Oversee continuous improvement of financial systems, workflows, and data integrations to increase accuracy and efficiency across accounting and FP&A functions.
- Partner with IT and Operations to identify automation opportunities that strengthen financial reporting and forecasting capabilities.
- Serve as business owner for financial systems, driving automation, data integrity, and efficiency in reporting and forecasting processes.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor the finance team, ensuring strong collaboration and clear accountability across the finance function.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, analytical rigor, and operational excellence.
- Serve as a coach and resource for financial literacy across the organization.
Qualifications Expected for Position:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
- MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred.
Experience/Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role overseeing accounting and FP&A.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, cash flow management, and financial controls.
- Experience in government contracting or federal programs, including compliance with FAR/DFARS and cost modeling principles.
- Demonstrated success building or optimizing financial systems and processes to support scaling organizations.
- Hands-on experience with ERP and financial systems such as Sage Intacct or equivalent.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to simplify complex financial data for diverse audiences.
Travel:
- Travel for this position is estimated up to 10%
