  • The Native Village of Eyak (NVE) is a federally recognized Tribal government based in Cordova, Alaska—a remote, roadless community nestled between the eastern Chugach Mountains and the waters of Prince William Sound.

As both an Indian Health Service facility and a Community Health Center, Ilanka offers affordable, high-quality care through contract health services and sliding fee scales. In addition to medical services, Ilanka also provides behavioral health support.

POSITION SUMMARY

The diagnostic medical sonographer balances patient interaction and technological performance with a firm knowledge in anatomy and pathology while working cohesively with Ilanka’s healthcare team. This position establishes methods and procedures for attaining specific goals and objectives, and receives guidance in terms of broad goals. Only the final results of work are typically reviewed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Perform clinical sonographic services by locating, evaluating, and recording pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional data using ultrasound equipment to aid physicians in diagnostic procedures.
  2. Maintain ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room in which the procedure takes place.
  3. Evaluate the images for their quality.
  4. Present images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team.
  5. Use Electronic Medical Records for day-to-day record keeping, which includes accurate entry/scanning of information into patient charts as well as ensuring information is only released to authorized entities.
  6. Maintain high levels of confidentiality are required and must be in accordance with HIPAA and HITECH, including all applicable regulations.
  7. Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a variety of viewpoints and diversity in the workplace.
  8. Attends QI/QA and other clinical committee meetings.
  9. Required to assist with outreach efforts and other NVE organized events which may be outside of regular scheduled hours.
  10. Ultrasound Tests to be performed:
    -Abdomen
    -OB/GYN (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
    -Transthoracic echo • Vascular Technology
    -Breast
  11. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Perform patient assessments. acquire and analyze data obtained using ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies. Able to provide a summary of preliminary findings to the provider to aid in patient diagnosis and management. Use independent judgment and systematic problem-solving methods to produce high-quality diagnostic information. Maintain professional demeanor with good interpersonal and human relations skills; Must have the ability to plan work, establish priorities and remain flexible. Must have the knowledge or skills to operate and/or learn specialized software and computer programs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be neat and clean, and present a calm and caring manner. Must have the ability to work well under pressure, have the skills to empathize and care for a variety of patients, including low-income and diverse cultures, in stressful situations.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:  Must hold a minimum of Associates degree in medical diagnostic sonography from a school accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and be registered with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Experience:  Must have a minimum 2 years’ experience in medical diagnostic sonography including cardiac.

  • Typically lifts 15 lbs. to coordinate work occasionally assist in lifting patients in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Regularly manipulate electronic data to gather, input and otherwise coordinate work.
  • Regularly use mental, oral and written methods to complete work.

While performing the essential functions of this position, employees may be exposed to the following conditions:

        The majority of work will be completed in an office within a medical primary care clinic.

        Exposure to moderate noise (office equipment and foot traffic).

        Exposure to hazardous materials such as housekeeping products, mucous membrane, or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids, or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required.

 

Other Requirements: Required to submit to a background check and follow the NVE Tribe’s drug policies.
