  • The Native Village of Eyak (NVE) is a federally recognized Tribal government based in Cordova, Alaska—a remote, roadless community nestled between the eastern Chugach Mountains and the waters of Prince William Sound.

As both an Indian Health Service facility and a Community Health Center, Ilanka offers affordable, high-quality care through contract health services and sliding fee scales. In addition to medical services, Ilanka also provides behavioral health support.

ELDER CHORE PROVIDER

Work Location: 100% onsite in Cordova, AK.  Remote/hybrid work not available for this position.

Reports To:        TFS Director

Schedule:   Part Time Regular, 20 hours per week

FLSA Status:   Hourly & Eligible for Overtime Pay

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Elder Chore Caregiver provides non-medical support to Elders to ensure safety, independence, and quality of life. Responsibilities include assisting with light housekeeping, meal preparation support, and maintaining a safe home environment. The caregiver also helps with errands, transportation, and companionship while observing and reporting any changes in an Elder’s condition. Additional duties include maintaining accurate records, following safety and confidentiality protocols, and participating in staff meetings or community Elder events.

 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Household Assistance

o   Perform light housekeeping such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, dishes, laundry, and changing linens.

o   Assist with organizing and maintaining a safe, clutter-free home environment.

o   Dispose of trash and ensure sanitary living conditions.


Meal Support

o   Provide assistance with grocery shopping and putting away household supplies.


Personal Support (non-medical)

o   Assist Elders with activities of daily living (ADLs) as appropriate, excluding medical or clinical care.

o   Offer companionship and engage in social interaction to reduce isolation.


Errands and Transportation Assistance

o   Run local errands such as grocery pickup, mail retrieval, or pharmacy trips.

o   Accompany Elders to community events or appointments if needed and authorized.


Safety and Reporting

o   Observe and report any changes in an Elder’s condition, needs, or home environment to the supervisor.

o   Follow all program guidelines regarding confidentiality, Elder rights, and safety protocols.

o   Maintain accurate records of services provided, hours worked, and tasks completed.


Other Duties as Assigned

o   Support Tribal Family Services events and activities as assigned.

o   Works safely in accordance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.

o   Immediately reports unsafe conditions, hazards, or injuries to HR or the designated safety contact.

o   Attends all mandatory special events, meetings, and trainings.

o   Assists with special events, meetings, and trainings as necessary.

o   Maintains confidentiality at all times.

o   Maintains awareness and sensitivity to Native American Culture.

o   Performs other duties as assigned.

 


ESSENTIAL SUPERVISORY DUTIES

None. This position does not supervise.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


·         Ability to perform light housekeeping, errands, and daily living support (non-medical).

·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to provide companionship with patience and compassion.

·         Reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality and respect Elder rights.

·         Knowledge of and ability to follow safety protocols and reporting procedures.

·         Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds and perform light physical tasks safely.

·         Willingness to attend training sessions and follow program guidelines.

 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


·         High school diploma or GED preferred.

·         Previous experience in caregiving, housekeeping, or working with Elders is helpful but not required.

·         Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

●        Ability to assist Elders with non-medical daily activities, which may involve standing, bending, reaching, or walking short distances.

●        Ability to accompany Elders on errands or appointments, which may include entering/exiting a vehicle.

●        Ability to perform tasks for sustained periods, with breaks as needed.

While performing the essential functions of this position, employees may be exposed to the following conditions:

 

Work is primarily performed in Elders’ homes and community settings. Conditions may vary depending on each household, including exposure to household cleaning supplies, pets, and varying levels of cleanliness or clutter. The role may require occasional car travel for errands, appointments, or community events.




Other Requirements: Required to submit to a background check and follow the NVE Tribe’s drug policies.
