About the role
- The Senior Manager, Actuarial shall serve as the in-house technical expert, project manager, and reviewer for actuarial calculations related to On Belay operations in both the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) and its Accountable Care Organization Realizing Equity, Access and Community Health (ACO REACH) programs, as well as Medicare Advantage and other health care programs.
What you'll do
- Lead actuarial strategy and analysis for value-based care initiatives, including development of pricing models, benchmarks, and risk-adjusted payment methodologies.
- Provide thought leadership and technical guidance on actuarial aspects of value-based contracting, including attribution models, benchmark/service fund performance, gain/loss sharing structures, stop-loss arrangements, and quality incentives.
- Partner with business development, operations, product analytics, and clinical to assess performance and guide financial sustainability.
- Develop and implement robust actuarial models to support risk evaluation, forecasting, and financial reconciliation.
- Oversee actuarial support for contract negotiations with payers and providers, ensuring alignment of incentives and financial soundness.
- Be a key contact for actuarial calculations and communications internally to On Belay staff and with participating practices as called upon, including participation in client meetings and presentations
- Work with our third-party actuarial firm to identify prospective practices the company should work with, generate pro forma calculations as requested, including taking in-house some functions historically performed by that third-party actuarial firm
- Lead discussions with payers to analyze bid and/or product design impact on service fund performance
- Perform or oversee necessary calculations or analysis on special projects
- Develop gross profit projections for annual budget, quarterly reforecasting and fund-raising initiatives
- Prepare and monitor annual project budgets and client invoicing
- Assist in business development efforts, including RFP responses, conference attendance; develop and maintain a professional business network
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in math, actuarial science, or other related field
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries required, Fellow of the Society of Actuaries preferred
- If not fully credentialed, pursuit of FSA is required
- 5+ years of health actuarial experience
- Strong background in healthcare actuarial work, particularly in Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, commercial risk, or ACO models.
- Proven experience in value-based care arrangements and population health analytics.
- Expertise in risk adjustment models (e.g., CMS-HCC, HHS-HCC), medical expense projections, and utilization trend analysis.
- Proficiency in actuarial modeling tools and data analysis platforms (e.g., SAS, R, SQL, Python, Excel).
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.

Compensation
- We offer a competitive base salary ranging from $150,000 to $180,000 annually, depending on experience.
