Founded in 1998, Octasic is a privately held company headquartered in Montreal, Canada, with Research and Development facilities in Canada and India and a global sales support network. Octasic is a leading provider of SoCs (System on Chip), software and hardware integrated platforms for the global wireless and multimedia gateway markets. Our hardware and software platforms are the foundation for next-generation wireless systems for Defense, Law Enforcement and National Security Agencies.
We choose Octasic for:
- A workplace at the cutting edge of technology to be in contact with wireless technology experts in a growing company;
- Competitive compensation (salaries, benefits, gym membership discount, stock options purchase program, public transit reimbursement, shower on the premises and beverages and snacks free every day);
- Work-life balance;
- Friendly and collaborative work atmosphere and many social activities all year long;
- Working for a company involved in its community;
- Proximity to various public transportation services (Angus Shuttle, 10 min. walk from Prefontaine station).
About the role:
We are looking for a C++ software engineer with a systems mindset to own the design, development, and maintenance of in-house tools used for RF mode testing, real-time system monitoring, and log analysis across our product portfolio.
You will work at the intersection of embedded communication protocols and RF system testing— building tools that product teams rely on daily to assess and validate the quality of our products. As our tooling continues to expand across product lines and field deployments, you will play a central role in making it scalable, maintainable, and
adaptable with each release.
You will collaborate closely with:
- Software developers;
- Hardware and RF engineers;
- System and field test.
What you'll do:
Tool Development & Architecture:
- Design, develop, and maintain the core tooling engine and modules primarily in C++ and PY, following clean, maintainable coding standards;
- Build and maintain TCP socket and HTTP client/server communication layers in C++ to interface with embedded subsystems and backend services;
- Develop C++ interfaces to control and query external RF lab instruments (power meters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers) via standard instrument control protocols;
- Write Python scripts to support automation, glue logic, and rapid prototyping where appropriate — Python complements but does not replace C++ as the primary development language.
RF Mode Testing:
- Implement and support RF mode test features including receiver sensitivity testing, test model signal generation, and waveform testing;
- Extend tool support for transmit/receive conformance testing and REST API integration.
Real-Time Monitoring & Dashboards:
- Develop and maintain a monitoring, analytics and data management system for Octasic products, backed by a C++ and PY FW serving real-time system status;
- Build real-time packet capture analysis pipelines for live field monitoring;
- Support continuous evolution of Data analytics and monitoring, aggregating telemetry and system data to support performance analysis, KPI reporting, troubleshooting, and validation of our wireless communication products;
- Support offline log analysis workflows and automated report generation (call metrics, scan metrics, registration rates).
Data Pipeline & Analytics Integration:
- Integrate tooling features with a data platform using message-broker architecture, relational database storage, and visual dashboarding;
- Support data pipeline extensions: geolocation, positioning, and periodic telemetry collection;
- Contribute to pipeline performance and reliability: threading, error handling, schema versioning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience;
- Strong, hands-on C++ and Python development experience — this is the primary language of the role; candidates must be comfortable writing production-quality C++ code;
- Experience with TCP socket programming and HTTP client/server communication for hardware-software integration;
- Familiarity with RF testing concepts or lab instrumentation control (signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters);
- Hands-on experience with packet capture and network analysis (Wireshark or equivalent);
- Experience with Git, Linux environments, and collaborative development workflows;
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills in integrated hardware/software systems.
Assets:
- Experience with multi-threaded C++ applications — concurrent programming, thread safety, and performance optimization;
- Experience with LTE/5G PHY layer concepts — receiver sensitivity, test models, waveform testing, power control, predistortion;
- Experience with data engineering: message brokers (MQTT, Kafka), ETL pipelines, relational database design (PostgreSQL), dashboarding tools (Grafana, Prometheus);
- Familiarity with pytest and Playwright for test automation frameworks;
- Experience with REST API design and integration;
- Background in mission-critical, defense, or aerospace communication systems;
- Familiarity with embedded telecom stacks and real-time embedded software.
