About the role

Onfleet is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead one of our cross-functional product teams: four to seven engineers, working closely with a product manager, reporting to the CTO.

We are looking for a leader who drives execution without being on the critical path. You own the team's people, delivery, hiring and process. You delegate, coach through growth and through tough moments, act early, proactively and fairly, when something is not working, and keep execution visible with data and metrics rather than feelings.

We code through agents, and a core part of this job is coaching the team's agentic way of working. We are not hiring the smartest person in the room. We are hiring the person who makes everyone else work smarter.

How We Work

We code using agents, and 100% of our code is written this way. Generating code is the easy part. Knowing what good looks like, and holding the bar, is the job. For a manager this means coaching engineers in how they plan, direct, review and verify agent work, ensuring there’s a balanced approach and vigilance towards quality, and pushing the team's workflows forward as the tools evolve. An engineering manager at Onfleet holds a high bar, shepherds the team's execution, keeps the quality of our releases high, and does it with the team rather than trying to be the hero who does it all.

Every engineer helps improve how we work instead of only following it. The manager sets that tone: you drive the direction and make room for the team to challenge it.

We are candid and have a low ego. Challenge us on how we run engineering, and expect to be challenged back.

What you'll do:

  • Lead a team of four to seven engineers. One-on-ones, honest feedback, career growth, and early, fair action when something is not working.
  • Own delivery. Plan with the team, keep commitments visible, remove blockers, and represent the team in planning and product meetings.
  • Partner with product. Work with your product manager daily on priorities and the trade-off between roadmap and technical health.
  • Coach the agentic way of working. Pair with engineers on how they plan, direct and review agent work. Guide, sometimes push, the direction, and bring in what works on other teams. Help the team evolve with our tool-set and best practices.
  • Stay hands-on, off the critical path. Code through agents, review pull requests, and keep your technical judgment current. Delivery never depends on your personal output.
  • Hire and grow the team. Run structured hiring with our process, and develop the engineers you already have.
  • Hold the quality bar. The team that builds a feature owns its quality; your job is to keep that true. A flaky test is a failing test.
  • Use data. Delivery and quality signals guide your coaching and process changes. You actively use metrics to understand your team. A metric is a conversation starter, not a verdict: it tells you where to look and what to ask. You read the numbers together with what you see and hear in the team.

What You’ll Bring (required):

  • 3 or more years managing software engineers who formally reported to you: you hired, ran their one-on-ones, wrote their reviews, and owned the performance decisions. Tech-lead or coordination experience without a reporting line does not count, whatever the title.
  • 5 or more years of hands-on professional software development before or alongside managing.
  • Proven and fluent daily use of AI coding agents, shown by what you have built: your own orchestration flows, agents or skills, or deep tuning of a team’s existing setup. Experience driving a team’s adoption of agentic workflows, beyond permitting them.
  • A track record of coaching engineers through growth and through tough moments, including acting early on underperformance.
  • A track record of running a team’s delivery end to end: your team shipped products to production, you were accountable for the commitments, and you can give concrete examples of finding and fixing a bottleneck.
  • A track record of raising a team’s quality bar and keeping it raised: developer-owned testing and gates that hold without you policing them, with evidence you can point to, such as fewer escaped bugs, production observability, fewer production incidents, or a quality practice that outlived your time there.
  • Experience partnering closely with product management on priorities and trade-offs.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, roughly C1 level, and experience working day to day on an international team.

Nice To Have:

  • Experience from more than one role on an engineering team, for example developer, SDET, QA Analyst / manual tester, or Scrum Master.
  • Experience leading and improving agile ceremonies and team delivery practice.
  • Our stack: TypeScript, Node.js, React, Rust in an AWS ecosystem.
  • Experience managing a remote team spread across time zones.
  • Logistics, delivery or marketplace domain experience.
  • Coaching quality practices: developer-owned testing, test-driven development mindset, refactoring, observability.

Location and Benefits:

  • Remote, open to candidates based in the United States, Canada or Latin America.
  • The team works on US Pacific Time. You'll need to reliably work a schedule that frequently matches US Pacific business hours (9am to 5pm PT).
  • Flexible PTO (paid time off).
  • Laptop and work-from-home setup stipend.
  • Monthly technology stipends (internet and AI tooling).

How we hire

You need an identity-verified LinkedIn profile to apply. That's the free "Verified" badge, the shield icon next to your name. We check for it, and applications without it don't move forward.

Before any offer, we verify your identity and work history. That includes a live video ID check and reference calls. We use AI, automated systems, and a person to review applications: every application that meets the requirements is also read by an engineering leader or a recruiter. If you misrepresent your identity or experience, the process ends.

If you need an accommodation at any step, including the camera or the ID check, tell us in your application or reply to any of our emails and we will arrange it.
