Job Purpose

The successful candidate will plan, design, implement, and manage our client’s servers and storage infrastructure (physical and virtual) according to best practices, company policy, and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for adhering to project timelines while maintaining the highest level of accuracy, reliability, and infrastructure availability. You will develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent and repeatable practices for day-to-day operational support of physical/virtual machines running on various platforms.

 

Essential Functions

  • Participate in the daily operations, including change requests, incidents, troubleshooting, patching and monitoring of all hardware, software, and applications on various platforms (Windows, VMware, Storage, Backup, etc.) within the established Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Recommends and implements standards and procedures improvements for the implementation and administration of physical and virtual infrastructure
  • Excellent working knowledge in the areas of various platforms (Operating Systems/Storage/Hardware/Hyperconverged) providing subject matter expertise
  • Creates and maintains operating procedures/best practices/standards related to system administration of physical and virtual infrastructure.
  • Maintains good working knowledge of current infrastructure and future trends.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for escalation support of technical issues, supporting the 24x7 operation environment

 

Education

  • Four years of University resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent job-related experience

 

Experience/Background

 

  • Level II – 3-5+ years; Level III – 7+ years of related technical experience required
  • Hands on experience managing large-scale systems/services in a heterogeneous environment
  • Expert knowledge of the configuration of servers, operating systems, and Cisco UCS hardware. Dell and HPe hardware is a plus
  • Extensive hands on experience in the configuration and management of VMware platforms (vCenter, ESXi, Replication, SRM, Orchestrator, etc). Containers platforms (Kubernetes/Docker) is a plus
  • Windows/Linux based server and application installation, hardening based on CIS standards and administration
  • Experience with database technologies including MS SQL, Oracle, Postgres and MySQL is preferred
  • Experience with storage management including Cisco MDS, Brocade SAN switches, Pure Storage, etc.
  • Strong experience with monitoring and managing monitoring tools (Zabbix/SCOM/vROps)
  • Hands on experience with AD, GPO, Exchange, PKI, ADCS, LDAP, NTP, NFS, DNS, DHCP, LVM, SAN, SCCM, WSUS, and Clustering such as Microsoft/RedHat/Veritas Clustering
  • Experience with backup solution such as Cohesity, NetBackup, Veeam
  • Highly proficiency in scripting, automation, orchestration technologies and languages such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to analysis and improve on existing systems and architectures.
  • Able to function efficiently in a multi-task environment and work under pressure.
  • Expert communication skills, including the ability to document and demonstrate procedures and processes.
  • A strong team player, strong interpersonal and team building skills
  • VMware, Microsoft Certifications preferred
  • Other industry certifications (e.g. RedHat, Storage) definite assets.
  • ITIL certification is preferred.

The pay range for this role is:

85,000 - 90,000 CAD per year (Remote)
