Position Overview 

As an Engineering Technician reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will serve as a key technical resource bridging manufacturing engineering and CNC programming functions for all lathes and turning operations. This hands-on role focuses on developing and implementing manufacturing processes, creating technical documentation, and supporting new product development through practical engineering solutions and CNC turning expertise. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Process Development & Implementation 

  • Develop and implement new manufacturing processes, with a focus on CNC machining operations 
  • Program and set up CNC equipment (CNC lathes, mill-turns, Gun Drills, Reaming, and Rifling machines) for new products and process improvements 
  • Create and optimize machining processes to improve efficiency and product quality 
  • Provide hands-on technical support for production issues and process optimization 

 

Technical Documentation & Design 

  • Create detailed technical drawings and specifications using CAD software (SolidWorks) 
  • Develop comprehensive setup documentation and work instructions for manufacturing processes 
  • Design and implement jigs and fixtures to improve manufacturing capabilities 
  • Maintain accurate documentation of process parameters, tooling, and fixturing 

 

Process Improvement & Standardization 

  • Lead standardization efforts in machining departments 
  • Implement and document best practices for manufacturing processes 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through process optimization 
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify and resolve manufacturing bottlenecks 

 

New Product Development Support 

  • Support prototype development and first article inspections 
  • Program and validate new machining operations 
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize designs for manufacturability 
  • Develop and document new manufacturing processes for product launches 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Associate's degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field OR 7+ years of hands-on experience in CNC Turning as a programmer or higher 
  • 3+ years combined experience in manufacturing engineering and CNC programming 
  • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks) and CAM programming 
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading 
  • Experience with multi-axis CNC Lathes 
  • Knowledge of tooling, fixturing, and machining parameters 
  • Must be a U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR 
  • Must not be a prohibited person under the Gun Control Act (GCA) 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  •  Experience in firearms manufacturing or precision machining industry 
  • Background in lean manufacturing principles 
  • Experience with Mastercam or similar CAM software 
  • NIMS certifications 
  • Experience training and mentoring others in technical processes 

 

Environmental and Working Conditions: 

  • Work is performed across a 10-acre campus with six buildings. Frequent walking between buildings in all weather conditions is required.  
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with some exposure to slip and trip hazards, bright lights, frequent exposure to noise and moving equipment 
  • Work environment requires standing or walking for up to 90% of the shift 
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE in designated areas  
  • Work requires occasional bending, occasional heavy lifting up to 50Lbs. and frequent reaching into machines with 5-25 lbs parts, fixtures, or tooling.
