Position Summary
The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing inspection and verification activities to ensure products, processes, and documentation comply with internal standards, customer requirements, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations. This role supports production by conducting incoming, in-process, and final inspections; documenting results; identifying nonconformances; and assisting with corrective actions. The Quality Inspector plays a key role in maintaining product integrity and supporting a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Inspection & Verification
· Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections in accordance with drawings, specifications, QAPs, workmanship standards, and control plans.
· Verify product conformance using appropriate inspection methods and acceptance criteria.
· Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T.
· Accurately document inspection results and maintain traceability records.
· Identify and segregate nonconforming material in accordance with company procedures.
Measurement & Equipment Use
· Properly use and maintain inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, pin/bore gages, surface plates, optical comparators, and other measuring equipment as required.
· Ensure measuring equipment is within calibration prior to use.
· Support verification of critical characteristics and special inspection requirements.
Nonconformance & Corrective Action Support
· Document nonconformances and initiate NCRs per QMS requirements.
· Assist in investigations related to internal defects or customer returns.
· Provide inspection data to support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
· Verify effectiveness of rework and corrective actions as directed.
Compliance, Audits & QMS Support
· Follow company Quality Management System procedures and applicable standards (e.g., ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements).
· Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits as requested.
· Maintain accurate and complete inspection documentation and records.
· Ensure proper control of inspection stamps, logs, and quality records.
Data & Continuous Improvement
· Record inspection data accurately in quality systems (e.g., 1Factory, ERP/MRP systems).
· Report recurring issues or trends to Quality leadership.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects and improving process capability.
Safety & Professional Conduct
· Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE.
· Maintain a clean and organized inspection area.
· Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and accountability.
Authority & Decision Rights
· Product Hold Authority: Authorized to place product on hold when nonconformance or quality concerns are identified.
· Stop-Work Support: Authorized to notify supervision and recommend stopping work when nonconforming product is identified.
· Escalation: Responsible for timely communication of quality risks to leadership.
· Disposition Support: May recommend dispositions (use-as-is, rework, scrap) in accordance with QMS guidelines; final approval follows authorization matrix.
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
· On-time completion of assigned inspections
· Accuracy and completeness of inspection documentation
· Reduction in repeat defects / escape rate
· NCR identification accuracy and timeliness
· Adherence to calibration and QMS requirements
Required Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
· Minimum 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or quality inspection role preferred.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
· Working knowledge of basic quality tools and inspection methods.
· Experience using standard measuring equipment.
· Basic computer proficiency for data entry and quality systems.
· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Associate’s degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, or related field.
· Experience in defense manufacturing or QAP-driven inspection environments.
· Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other regulated quality systems.
· Experience with calibration and gage control processes.
Security & Regulatory Requirements
· Must meet requirements to handle controlled technical data (e.g., CUI, ITAR/EAR).
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
· Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching in a manufacturing environment.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
· Exposure to noise, oils/coolants, and production-floor conditions.
· Regular use of inspection equipment requiring visual acuity and fine motor skills.
Work Schedule & Expectations
· Works on a single shift, with occasional overtime based on operational needs.
· May be required to support additional inspection activities during peak production periods.
