Role Overview
We are seeking a Director of Credit & Risk to own underwriting strategy, portfolio performance, and lender-facing execution for Order.co’s credit offering.
This role reports into the Head of Payments & Credit and operates as the day-to-day owner of the credit function. You will be responsible for building the systems, policies, and operating rigor required to evolve our current underwriting approach into a more scalable, programmatic credit engine.
This is an individual contributor role with light team oversight (analyst/associate level), designed for a senior operator who can both set direction and personally drive outcomes across the credit lifecycle.
You will play a critical role in shaping how Order.co deploys capital, manages risk, and builds credibility with institutional lenders.
Role Expectations
Credit Strategy & Policy Development
- Design and formalize underwriting policies, approval frameworks, and risk thresholds.
- Translate business objectives into clear, scalable credit decisioning logic.
- Continuously evolve policy based on portfolio performance, loss trends, and growth targets.
Portfolio Ownership & Performance Management
- Own end-to-end portfolio health, including approval rates, utilization, delinquency, and loss performance.
- Build and maintain core reporting (cohort analysis, vintage tracking, unit economics).
- Identify emerging risk signals and take proactive action to protect portfolio performance.
Lender & Capital Partner Management
- Serve as a primary interface with external lending and trade credit partners.
- Lead recurring performance reviews, reporting, and data discussions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant agreements and proactively manage covenant performance.
- Translate internal portfolio data into clear, credible narratives for institutional stakeholders.
Underwriting Execution & Complex Deal Structuring
- Personally underwrite and approve complex or high-value accounts.
- Conduct deep analysis of customer financials, business models, and risk profiles.
- Structure credit decisions that balance growth with disciplined risk management.
Operational Buildout & Team Enablement
- Establish SOPs, QA processes, and decisioning frameworks to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Provide guidance and oversight to junior underwriting and operations team members.
- Implement processes that reduce manual work while improving decision quality.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to improve underwriting workflows and automation.
- Collaborate with GTM and Operations on customer-level decisions and escalations.
- Provide input into product and infrastructure decisions that impact credit performance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 8–12+ years of experience in commercial credit, underwriting, or asset-backed lending.
- Strong experience interacting with institutional lenders or capital providers.
- Proven ability to design or evolve credit policies and underwriting frameworks.
- Deep understanding of portfolio analytics, including loss drivers and performance segmentation.
- Experience operating in a high-growth or evolving environment where structure is still being built.
- Ability to operate as a hands-on individual contributor while influencing across teams.

The anticipated annual salary range for this role is $190,000–$220,000. Actual compensation and title will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skills.
