About Us
Ovyl is a growing product development firm working on an exciting range of consumer electronics, lifestyle products, and medical devices. We're expanding our team in Nashville, Tennessee, and are looking for our next Lead Project Manager.
About you
- You are passionate about coordinating cross-functional engineering, design, and research teams through the messy process of bringing a new product to life while staying on time and budget.
- You are energized by managing plans, budgets, and timelines, and trust the designers and engineers to determine the best approach for tackling product challenges.
- You are not satisfied with just knowing whether a project is on track or off track. You have an irresistible urge to investigate the details, uncover root causes, and determine why the team is struggling to meet a project milestone.
- You understand the design and development process for physical products from early-stage user testing through proof of concept, EVT, DVT, PVT, and final manufacturing.
- You are comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously. You bring a sense of calm and order even when plans need to flex and change.
- You are excited to work at an agency in a client-facing role. You view ambiguous requests and constraints as opportunities to understand complex problems and identify pragmatic paths forward.
In this role, you will...
- Manage projects from research through execution, ensuring the successful delivery of tech-enabled physical products. This may involve handing off manufacturing-ready designs or managing production and delivery to the client's warehouse.
- Collaborate with project teams to define, document, and manage detailed project plans, including scope, objectives, deliverables, and budgets.
- Serve as a point of contact for clients, ensuring they have visibility into our process while managing their expectations for timeline and budget.
- Proactively monitor project health and anticipate risks, pulling in the team when necessary to identify mitigation strategies and course corrections.
- Collaborate with Discipline Managers to define project resourcing needs so that each project has appropriate support to achieve project goals.
- Work closely with the Ovyl leadership team to help evolve and improve our approach to project management and client communication, including building out potential new processes and software tools.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in hardware new product development, with at least 5 years as a project manager.
- Well-versed in using project management software to create and manage project plans, monitor budgets, and adjust resource allocation. Ovyl primarily uses Jira, Confluence, and Google Suite.
- Fluency with the process and needs of our different disciplines, including electrical engineering, hardware engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial design, and user research.
- Thrive while working on multiple projects concurrently—each of which may be in different phases of the product development process.
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Current or previous titles include project manager, technical project manager, engineering program manager, or similar.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Product Design, or relevant industry experience.
- Must live in the Nashville, TN, area or be willing to relocate. This role is hybrid, and we expect at least three days in the office per week.
- Must be allowed to work in the USA now and in the future. We cannot support visas at this time.
