About the role
- The primary responsibility of the Assistant Coach is to assist the Varsity Head Coach in managing the day-to-day operations and activities of the Varsity and/or lower-level programs. Helping develop, organize, coordinate, oversee, and manage a well-rounded, comprehensive, efficient Athletic Program.
What you'll do
- Pre-Season Responsibilities
- Hold Tryouts, if necessary, to determine Varsity, JV, and F/S Teams
- Communicate with Varsity head coach on team selection.
- Have a pre-season meeting with the Varsity Head Coach to discuss season goals, expectations, coaches handbook and all logistics relating to the program
- Do an inventory of all equipment relating to the program.
- Attend pre-season All Coaches Meeting hosted by the Athletic Department
Coaching Responsibilities
- Provide instruction and training in the fundamentals of the sport
- Capable of coaching all phases of the sport
- Plan and execute all team practices, carry practice plans
- Supervise the team during practice, contests, travel, and all other team-related activities
- Maintain facilities and team equipment to appropriate standards
- If Gym sport maintaining gym floor and all necessary gym equipment ( dry mop-daily: wet mop-twice a week)
- Promote sportsmanship, fair play, and a Christ-centered environment
- Provide basic medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries
Administrative Responsibilities
- Responsible for understanding the content of, and abiding by, the National, State, and League rules pertaining to the sport being coached, including eligibility rules of athletes.
- Game reporting: report all scores to Athletic Director and the appropriate media outlets before 10pm on the night of the contest. (Daily Pilot, OC Varsity, OC Prep Zone, etc) Contact information will be given to you by Athletic Department *This is the head coach’s responsibility that it gets done, but oftentimes is a task given to an Assistant Coach.
- Complete administrative tasks that are given by the Varsity Head Coach and/or Athletic Department Administrators relating to your athletic program
- Log on and Keep up-to-date Maxpreps with all team information. (season schedule, roster, stats, scores) Log in information will be provided by Pacifica Christian Athletic Department *This is the head coach’s responsibility that it gets done, but often times is a task given to an Assistant Coach.
- Utilize Athletic Department-provided Sports Technology (Hudl, Insta-stat, Ipad, etc) to further advance/prepare your Program for competition.
Qualifications
- Previous Coaching Experience
- Adequate knowledge and understanding of the sport
- Meet coaching certification standards as set forth by Pacifica and CIF-SS
- Requires standing for long periods of time
- Requires lifting and moving of items upwards of 50 pounds
- Must be CPR/First Aid Certified
- Must be 21 years or older
- Must have a valid CA Driver’s License
- Must be willing to take and pass a background check
- Must be Willing to Drive a 10 or 12 passenger School Van
