PAI is seeking a Director of Development to lead the strategy and execution of fundraising efforts that support the organization’s mission, growth, and sustainability. This includes overseeing foundation and philanthropic funding, industry partner contributions, sponsorships and in-kind development. The Director is responsible for managing a full development lifecycle—bringing in new funding partners, cultivating long-term relationships, stewarding funding agreements, coordinating internal systems for invoicing and reporting, and executing high-profile campaigns such as PAI’s 10-Year Anniversary Working Capital Campaign.

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, Philanthropy and Partnerships (CSOPP), as part of the Partnership Development team, the Director of Development will supervise the Head of Partnerships and collaborates with cross-functional teams to align funding opportunities with PAI’s policy, research, and programmatic goals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Strategic Fundraising & Revenue Growth

  • Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive, integrated fundraising strategy that includes grants, industry partnerships, and sponsorships.
  • Secure new funding opportunities from aligned philanthropic and private sector partners; and sponsorships opportunities into PAI’s network.
  • Represent PAI in external funder meetings, events, and strategy discussions.
  • Launch and manage the 10-Year Anniversary Working Capital Campaign.
  • Explore new areas of programmatic relevance that align with funder interests and ecosystem trends.
  • Oversee full-cycle relationship management: from cultivation and proposal to agreement signing, invoicing, and renewal.


Internal Leadership 

  • Manage a high-performing team including the Head of Partnerships and Partnership Engagement Lead.
  • Oversee collaboration with Operations, Policy and Programs and Research, Communications and International Team to gather content and budgets for pitches, proposals, and reports.
  • Align internal systems (CRM, reporting tools) for fundraising operations, 
  • Ensure timely, accurate reporting to funders and visibility into financial performance.


EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, institutional fundraising, or mission-driven business development.
  • Proven success leading major fundraising campaigns and managing high-level donor/stakeholder relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
  • Strong CRM (e.g., Salesforce), project management, and team leadership skills.

PAI is headquartered in San Francisco, with a global membership base and scope. This role is eligible for remote work within the United States with no requirement to be located in San Francisco.
