About the role
The Supervisor of the Pick/Pack Line is tasked with ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of both the pick and pack lines in the distribution department. This role includes managing a team of distribution workers, guaranteeing that customer orders are shipped accurately and on time, and overseeing rework and kitting tasks. Additionally, the supervisor is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels and implementing process improvements to boost line performance.
What you'll do
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of 4-8 distribution workers, including both full-time and temporary staff, adjusting team size based on workload and special project needs.
- Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
Responsibilities:
Pick Line Management:
- Oversee the batching and shipping of daily customer orders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Train and monitor workers on best practices for picking and packing, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and replenishment to maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Address and resolve any issues or requests from customer service regarding outgoing orders.
Pack Line Management:
- Monitor and manage the pack line schedule, ensuring alignment with production priorities.
- Communicate effectively with Planners to set and adjust priorities as needed.
- Oversee the pulling of inventory and ensure the accuracy of job transactions.
- Complete and close out jobs efficiently, maintaining high standards of quality.
Process Improvement and Reporting:
- Review feedback from the field and implement strategies to improve line performance.
- Maintain accurate daily activity and productivity reports, using designated systems to track team performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with management to develop and refine processes and procedures related to order fulfillment and shipping operations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall goals of the distribution department.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with team members and management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word, for reporting and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team, provide clear direction, and resolve conflicts in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic math skills for inventory management and order processing.
- Forklift certification is a plus.
- Experience with Oracle Inventory Management is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Typically requires 5+ years of experience in a related area, with a focus on order fulfillment and warehouse operations.
- Previous experience in Direct Sales or Multi-Level Marketing industry, highly desired.
Work Arrangement for Warehouse Operations
Environment:
- The role requires working in a lively warehouse environment. This includes both administrative tasks and hands-on activities within the warehouse.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods while overseeing operations and conducting inspections.
- Capability to lift and move items as needed, adhering to safety guidelines to prevent injury.
- Proficiency in using computers and other digital tools for data entry, reporting, and communication.
Mobility and Collaboration:
- Frequent movement within the warehouse is necessary to monitor workflows, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and address any operational issues.
- Attend meetings with team members and management to discuss performance, strategies, and improvements.
- Collaborate with colleagues across different departments to ensure seamless operations and effective communication.
Additional Considerations:
- Employees should be prepared for varying temperatures and conditions typical of a warehouse environment.
- Safety gear, such as gloves and safety shoes, may be required while on the warehouse floor.
Flexibility:
- Adaptability to changing workloads and priorities, with the ability to adjust schedules and tasks as required by business needs.
- Willingness to work additional hours or shifts during peak periods or special projects to meet operational demands.
