The right candidate for this position is someone with extensive experience in Safety who will support our projects. This person will constantly be responsible for successfully integrating safety initiatives into the functional operation of the different projects by maintaining processes and procedures to prevent injuries and violations of the law or company policies and minimize the environmental impact of our operations.

About the role


The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment to move, load, unload, and stage steel materials in both the fabrication shop and laydown yard. This role supports production, shipping/receiving, and storage operations while maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.

What you'll do


Forklift Operation & Material Handling

·         Safely operate forklifts, side-loaders, and other equipment to handle structural steel, pipe, plate, and other heavy materials.

·         Load and unload trucks and trailers, ensuring secure placement and proper weight distribution.

·         Transport materials between the shop, yard, and staging areas according to work orders and production needs.

·         Stack, store, and stage steel in designated locations using safe rigging and load-handling techniques.

Shop & Yard Support

·         Assist in organizing the laydown yard for efficient material retrieval.

·         Deliver materials to fabrication stations as scheduled.

·         Remove scrap and waste materials from work areas and transport to designated disposal or recycling locations.

·         Coordinate with fabrication, welding, and shipping teams to ensure timely material flow.

Safety & Compliance

·         Follow all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety protocols, including PPE usage.

·         Inspect forklift and equipment daily before use; report any mechanical issues immediately.

·         Adhere to load limits, safe lifting procedures, and hazard awareness practices.

·         Maintain clear aisles, safe walkways, and properly marked storage areas.

Documentation & Communication

·         Maintain accurate load and delivery records.

·         Tag and label materials as required.

·         Communicate with supervisors regarding material shortages, damage, or discrepancies.

·         Demonstrate flexibility and commitment by performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of experience in receiving, warehouse, or materials management, preferably in a steel fabrication or industrial environment.
  • Minimum 1 year forklift operating experience in a heavy industrial, steel, or construction environment.
  • Valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain before start).
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, load charts, and material tags.
  • Knowledge of safe rigging and load-handling practices for steel products.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a steel fabrication shop or laydown yard.
  • Ability to operate multiple types of material-handling equipment (overhead cranes, side-loaders, telehandlers).

 Certificates and Licenses:

·         Forklift certification or willingness to become certified.

·         OSHA-10 Certification.
