Position Overview:
The Nurse Manager provides clinical leadership, oversight, and direct nursing care within a federally contracted ICE residential facility in Alexandria, LA.
This position is responsible for supervising nursing staff, coordinating healthcare operations, ensuring clinical compliance, and maintaining high standards of patient care in a 24/7 residential healthcare environment. The Nurse Manager also performs direct clinical nursing duties as needed to support patient care, including assessments, triage, treatment, medication administration, and emergency response within scope of practice.
The Nurse Manager works closely with medical providers, behavioral health staff, and facility leadership to ensure safe, timely, and effective delivery of healthcare services in a fast-paced operational setting.
This role requires strong clinical expertise, leadership ability, sound judgment, and the ability to balance both supervisory and hands-on clinical responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Clinical Leadership & Nursing Oversight
- Provide clinical oversight of all nursing services within the facility.
- Supervise, schedule, and support Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and nursing support staff.
- Ensure nursing care is delivered safely, consistently, and in accordance with clinical standards and facility protocols.
- Serve as a clinical resource for complex patient care situations and escalations.
- Monitor nursing workflows to ensure efficient patient flow and timely care delivery.
- Perform direct clinical nursing duties as needed, including patient assessments, triage, treatment support, medication administration, and emergency response within scope of practice.
- Coordinate daily healthcare operations and staffing to ensure adequate clinical coverage across all shifts.
Patient Care Coordination
- Oversee intake health screenings, triage processes, and ongoing nursing assessments.
- Ensure appropriate escalation of medical concerns to providers and specialty services.
- Coordinate nursing support for medical appointments, treatments, and emergency care needs.
- Monitor patient care plans and ensure continuity of care across shifts.
Quality Assurance & Clinical Compliance
- Ensure nursing services comply with federal contract requirements, facility policies, and clinical standards.
- Support internal audits, quality assurance reviews, and corrective action planning.
- Monitor documentation accuracy within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Ensure adherence to infection control, medication safety, and clinical protocols.
- Track clinical performance indicators and report trends to leadership.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Supervise nursing staff performance, scheduling, and shift coverage.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to nursing personnel.
- Support onboarding and orientation of new clinical staff.
- Ensure all required certifications, licenses, and trainings are current.
- Promote a professional, accountable, and team-oriented clinical environment.
- Develop and manage nursing schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels and continuity of care.
Medication & Clinical Operations Support
- Oversee medication administration processes and ensure proper documentation practices.
- Ensure safe storage, handling, and accountability of medications and medical supplies.
- Monitor controlled medication processes and reconciliation procedures.
- Support pharmacy coordination and medication supply management.
Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in the EHR system.
- Review nursing documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Prepare clinical and staffing reports for leadership review.
- Maintain records required for audits, inspections, and contract compliance.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with physicians, behavioral health providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Participate in operational briefings, clinical meetings, and leadership updates.
- Communicate staffing, clinical concerns, and operational needs to facility leadership.
- Support coordinated care delivery across all departments.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, infection control standards, and facility policies.
- Support emergency preparedness and clinical response procedures.
- Enforce safe nursing practices and incident reporting requirements.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and compliant clinical environment.
Required Qualifications & Core Competencies:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; ADN candidates with significant leadership experience may be considered.
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) multi-state or Louisiana license.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in hospital, emergency, correctional, residential, or urgent care settings.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory, charge nurse, or nursing leadership experience required
- Strong clinical assessment, triage, and critical thinking skills.
- Experience working with pediatric, family, or diverse patient populations.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Knowledge of infection control, medication safety, and clinical best practices.
- Ability to work in a 24/7 operational healthcare environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Ability to pass required federal background clearance.
Desired Skills:
- ACLS and/or PALS certification.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or another commonly encountered language.
- Experience working in a government-contracted, residential, shelter, correctional, or congregate-care healthcare environment.
- Experience with infectious disease screening, testing, and outbreak response in a congregate setting.
- Experience with quality assurance, clinical audits, accreditation surveys, or performance improvement initiatives.
- Training or experience in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), crisis intervention, Motivational Interviewing (MI), or verbal de-escalation techniques.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, 24/7 healthcare environment with high patient turnover.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during facility operations (up to 8–12 hours per shift).
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations throughout the facility
- Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods while completing documentation and screenings.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
- Capability to work in varied environmental conditions (indoor/outdoor, temperature variations).
- Visual acuity for reading medical records, medication labels, test results, and clinical documentation.
- Auditory ability to monitor the clinical environment, communicate with patients and staff, and detect signs of distress.
Work Environment:
- Fully on-site position at a federally contracted residential ICE facility in Alexandria, LA
- Work schedules may include shifts overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Fast-paced, high-tempo operational environment requiring composure, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism at all times.
