Animal Urgent Care

Senior HR Business Partner

Dallas Animal Urgent Care is seeking an experienced Senior HR Business Partner to lead and strengthen the People function across our broader multi-site veterinary organization.

Our organization currently includes five veterinary locations across multiple models of care - three urgent care hospitals, one general practice, and one spay/neuter clinic - with continued growth ahead.

This is a highly visible, hands-on role with organization-wide impact and direct partnership with our VP of Operations, Partners, Hospital Directors, practice leadership, and management teams.

We’re looking for an experienced HR professional who has strong judgment, enjoys working closely with leaders and employees, and is comfortable being hands-on. This person should be able to coach a manager through a difficult employee situation, independently lead an investigation, recognize employment risk, manage payroll accurately, and help us continue improving the employee experience across our organization.

This is an exciting time to join our organization. As we continue to grow, you'll have the opportunity to bring your experience, ideas, and perspective to the table and play a meaningful role in shaping the future of our People function.

What You'll Own

As our Senior HR Business Partner, you'll serve as the primary HR partner across our multi-site organization while maintaining meaningful visibility within the hospitals, practices, and teams you support.

  • Partner with our VP of Operations, Partners, Hospital Directors, practice leadership, managers, and medical leadership.
  • Coach leaders through performance, attendance, conduct, employee relations, and team challenges.
  • Lead workplace investigations and complex employee-relations matters.
  • Guide corrective action, performance improvement, conflict resolution, and terminations.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of applicable employment laws and help ensure compliant, consistent HR practices across the organization.
  • Recognize employment risk, provide practical HR recommendations, and partner with employment counsel when appropriate.
  • Support leave, accommodations, policy, documentation, and other compliance matters.
  • Strengthen employee engagement, retention, performance management, and leadership development.
  • Support workforce planning, compensation, internal equity, and organizational needs.
  • Identify People trends and opportunities across our locations and different models of care.
  • Improve HR systems, processes, technology, and reporting as the organization grows.

We want someone our leaders trust enough to call when something is difficult - and experienced enough to help them determine the right path forward.

Payroll Ownership

You'll also own payroll administration and processing across our multi-site organization, working in partnership with leadership to ensure our employees are paid accurately, consistently, and on time.

Our managers are responsible for reviewing and approving their teams' timecards. From there, you'll manage the payroll process through Rippling, including:

  • Ensuring manager approvals are completed by payroll deadlines.
  • Reviewing payroll data and identifying exceptions or discrepancies.
  • Processing compensation changes, bonuses, deductions, and other payroll inputs.
  • Managing corrections and off-cycle payments when necessary.
  • Completing final payroll review and processing.
  • Supporting payroll reconciliation, reporting, and recordkeeping.
  • Resolving employee payroll questions.
  • Maintaining strong payroll controls, documentation, and processes.

Hands-on payroll processing or payroll administration experience is strongly preferred.

How This Role Can Grow

This role is designed to grow alongside our organization.

Initially, you'll be a hands-on Senior HR Business Partner with broad responsibility across employee relations, leadership partnership, compliance, HR operations, and payroll.

As we continue to grow, we anticipate expanding our People infrastructure and adding additional HR and payroll capacity. You'll have the opportunity to help determine what that future structure should look like and, as the function grows, help build and lead the team supporting it.

For someone who wants to grow into broader HR leadership, this role offers the opportunity to help shape the function now and eventually help build and lead the team supporting it.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
  • Strong hands-on employee-relations experience.
  • Experience independently conducting workplace investigations.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance.
  • Ability to recognize employment risk and know when legal guidance should be sought.
  • Experience coaching managers and operational leaders.
  • Experience supporting both hourly and salaried employee populations.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance employee advocacy with organizational needs.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple locations.

●Ability and willingness to travel between locations as needed, including at least quarterly out-of-state travel.

  • Comfort moving between strategic HR work and hands-on execution.
  • A practical, solutions-oriented approach and a desire to build, improve, and scale - not simply maintain.

Strongly preferred: multi-site HR experience, hands-on payroll experience, Rippling experience, experience building or scaling an HR function, and/or SHRM or HRCI certification.

Veterinary experience is not required. Experience in healthcare, hospitality, retail, or another multi-site, high-volume service environment can translate very well.

Schedule & Travel

This is a full-time, primarily on-site position based in Dallas, with Dallas Animal Urgent Care serving as the primary work location.

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, with flexibility as needed to support the organization and our teams.

Our urgent care hospitals operate seven days a week from 8:00 AM-10:00 PM. While this role maintains a primarily Monday-Friday schedule, the Senior HR Business Partner should understand the needs of a seven-day operation and be comfortable providing flexibility when an important employee or business matter requires it.

Because this role supports our broader multi-site veterinary organization, you'll also spend time at other locations as business needs require. Travel to out-of-state locations is expected at least quarterly, with additional travel as needed as our organization and geographic footprint continue to grow.

Why Join Us?

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants meaningful responsibility and direct access to leadership. The Senior HR Business Partner will work closely with our VP of Operations, Partners, and leaders across the organization, and we genuinely want this person’s perspective on how we can continue improving.

We’re also at an exciting point in our growth. Our organization currently includes five veterinary locations across three different models of care, and we expect our People infrastructure to continue growing with us. As that happens, this person will have the opportunity to help shape the future HR structure and eventually help build and lead the team supporting it.

We also believe strong HR requires visibility and relationships. This person won’t just know policies and employee names—they’ll spend time with our teams, understand how our locations operate, and become a trusted resource for our leaders and employees.

Compensation & Benefits

$100,000-$125,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Eligible full-time employees have access to a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Multiple medical plan options through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.
  • Dental and vision coverage.
  • Employer-paid Basic Life and AD&D coverage.
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability.
  • Confidential Employee Assistance Program.
  • Financial wellness resources through Origin.
  • 15 days of PTO, increasing by one day each year up to 20 days.
  • Access to the company's 401(k) plan.

Eligible full-time employees currently become benefits-eligible on the first of the month following their date of hire.

Interested in Joining Us?

We're looking for someone who wants meaningful responsibility, direct access to leadership, room to bring new ideas, and the opportunity to make a visible impact across our organization.

You'll be trusted with meaningful decisions, encouraged to share your perspective, and given the opportunity to grow as our organization grows.

If you're looking for a place where HR has a real voice and your work can genuinely make a difference, we'd love to meet you.
