Technical Data Specialist

Job Overview:

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Technical Data Specialist to join our Project Delivery Team. Under the guidance of a Program Manager, you will lead data preparation, migration planning, testing coordination, and readiness activities within enterprise ERP implementations. This role demands strong data migration expertise, analytical skills, the ability to manage complex technical workflows, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse technical and business stakeholders. It requires a solutions-oriented mindset with meticulous attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality data and systems within defined timelines while reducing implementation risk and ensuring organizational readiness for successful deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Migration Planning & Strategy

  • Develop comprehensive data migration plans and strategies in coordination with technical and business teams
  • Define migration sequencing, validation approaches, data cleansing protocols, and rollback procedures
  • Support project timelines and dependencies to ensure alignment with the overall implementation plan
  • Manage detailed plans for assigned data work-streams, ensuring quality and adherence to schedules

Data Quality & Migration Management

  • Partner with business and technical teams to assess data quality and develop migration strategies
  • Lead data profiling and analysis activities to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and remediation needs
  • Coordinate data cleansing efforts and master data management initiatives across functional areas
  • Execute reconciliation activities to validate converted data and ensure integrity throughout migration
  • Coordinate ETL processes and manage technical integrations with external partners as required

Stakeholder Collaboration & Coordination

  • Collaborate with business process owners and functional leads to define data requirements, assess current state, and map data flows
  • Work with business analysts and project team members to understand business needs and translate requirements into data migration strategies
  • Partner with technical teams, business stakeholders, and external partners to coordinate efforts and resolve data-related issues
  • Facilitate communication between technical and business teams to ensure alignment on data quality standards and migration approach

Testing & Validation

  • Develop comprehensive test plans for assigned work-stream(s), including system integration testing and user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Coordinate testing execution, document defects, and track remediation efforts
  • Validate data conversion results and ensure system reliability throughout testing phases
  • Support go-live readiness activities and cutover coordination

Risk & Issue Management

  • Proactively identify and manage risks within assigned work-streams
  • Escalate potential impacts on the broader project to the Program Manager
  • Develop and implement solutions to keep project components on track
  • Address defects and issues systematically to maintain schedule and quality standards

Communication & Documentation

  • Provide regular progress reports to the Director of Client Success, team members, and project stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, testing artifacts, and migration records per defined standards
  • Generate reports and analytics on project status, data quality metrics, and testing progress

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in data-focused roles (data migration specialist, ERP data analyst, testing coordinator, or business systems analyst)
  • Demonstrated experience in enterprise technology implementations and data migration initiatives
  • Knowledge of core data management principles and best practices for large-scale initiatives
  • Ability to translate technical data processes to business stakeholders and vice versa
  • Experience managing data quality initiatives, testing coordination, and go-live support activities

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Proficiency in data profiling, analysis, and validation methodologies
  • Experience with SQL and data analysis tools
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and data governance frameworks
  • Understanding of system integration testing and user acceptance testing coordination
  • Ability to manage defects and support go-live readiness activities

Soft Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Adept at working with both technical and business teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field
  • Workday Platform Certifications (preferred)
  • Data Analytics, SQL, or Business Intelligence certifications (preferred)
  • Data migration or ETL certifications as applicable (preferred)

Location

  • Ideally based in or with the ability to relocate to the Portland, OR area
