Accountant, Fund Accounting

The Fund Accountant is responsible for maintaining the complete accounting records of the funds and related entities. He or she ensures the preparation of periodic financial information, cash monitoring, the preparation of financial statements, and support for audits, while ensuring compliance with accounting, tax, and contractual requirements.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform bookkeeping and accounting entries for multiple entities.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and monitor bank account balances.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Record capital calls and distributions for the various funds.
  • Monitor cash balances with trustees.
  • Execute bank transfers and prepare checks.
  • Monitor the cash management of the funds under responsibility.
  • Prepare various analyses for general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare government remittance forms and payments.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end closings, including monthly investor-level accounting.
  • Produce financial statements.
  • Prepare accounting entries (payables, receivables, accruals, cash, investments, prepaid expenses, deferred revenues, equity)Ensure proper filing of supporting documentation for all accounting transactions.
  • Validate appropriate allocation of expenses according to ongoing projects.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly reports and documents provided to investors.


PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Accounting and Management collegial degree (D.E.C.), a certificate or a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in bookkeeping / full accounting cycle.
  • Experience in fund accounting is a strong asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of the full accounting cycle.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Professionalism, strong organizational skills, analytical mindset, autonomy, and attention to detail.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team and is comfortable in a growing organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple files simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in the Office 365 suite, particularly Excel.
  • Proficient in Sage 300 or other accounting software.
  • Enjoys working in an integrated IT environment with largely automated processes.
  • Bilingualism (oral and written) (French and English) in order to be able to deal on a daily basis with our colleagues in offices outside Quebec as well as with our external partners across Canada, the United States and internationally.
