About the role

• Student Custodians work independently to help maintain the cleanliness of Bethel's residence halls during the weekends while full-time staff are off campus. Each student is assigned one or more residence halls and is responsible for completing routine custodial tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, and sanitizing kitchens, laundry rooms, and other common areas.

Qualifications

• Must be a current student.
• Able to work independently and manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Reliable and dependable with consistent attendance.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate through text, email, and shared spreadsheets.
• Able to follow written instructions and maintain cleaning standards.
• Previous custodial or cleaning experience is helpful but not required.

Travel: This position does not require travel.

Work Environment:

• Work is performed indoors in campus residence halls.
• Students assigned to multiple buildings will walk between residence halls during their shift.
• Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants with strong odors.
• Work is performed independently without full-time custodial staff on site during weekend shifts.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to stand and walk for a minimum of 4 consecutive hours.
• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull custodial equipment and supplies.
• Regularly bend, kneel, squat, reach, and transition from kneeling to standing.
• Walk up and down multiple flights of stairs while sweeping, mopping, or transporting supplies.

Expected Hours of Work:

Work schedules are flexible and built around each student's availability.

Most positions consist of independent weekend shifts worked on either Saturday or Sunday, with a minimum commitment of one 4-hour shift per week. Students are welcome to work additional hours. A limited number of weekday shifts are also available for students interested in working in the North Village Apartments.
