Position Title: Business Development Manager

Position Location: Remote – Work virtually from anywhere in the United States

Travel Requirements: Up to 50%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states. Must be able to rent vehicles and have a valid driver's license.

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth and market expansion by leading the estimating, proposal, and preconstruction functions for critical infrastructure and smart technology projects. This role focuses on opportunities in hyperscale data centers, utilities, industrial facilities, and high-availability commercial environments, with an emphasis on automation, IoT-enabled systems, electrical, mechanical, and integrated building technology solutions.


The Business Development Manager works closely with executives, delivery leadership, engineering, estimating teams, and subject matter experts to develop winning strategies, accurate estimates, and compelling proposals.


The Business Development Manager will also lead client engagement efforts from pre-RFP positioning through contract award, ensuring Ceqel Critical Commissioning delivers competitive, compliant, and high-value offerings that reflect our commitment to innovation and performance.


The Business Development Manager will work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. 

This person will receive limited directions on day-to-day work and general instruction on new projects, tasks or assignments.  Will execute and assist team leadership on projects, tasks or assignments of complex scope.  Will work independently or under limited supervision.

This person will normally receive little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments


This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Business Development & Client Engagement (40%)

  • Identify, qualify, and pursue critical infrastructure and smart technology project opportunities through direct client engagement, networking, and market research.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for strategic accounts, building relationships with decision-makers, influencers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop go-to-market strategies for targeted verticals and regions.
  • Represent Ceqel Critical Commissioning at industry events, technology expos, trade shows, and client meetings to strengthen market presence.

Estimating Leadership (30%)

  • Build, develop and lead the estimating Team and process for critical infrastructure and smart building projects, from conceptual budgets to detailed bid proposals.
  • Direct take-offs, scope development, risk assessments, and value engineering initiatives to deliver cost-effective solutions.
  • Coordinate pricing strategies with vendors, subcontractors, and internal engineering teams to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
  • Develop and maintain cost models, historical pricing databases, and smart technology performance benchmarks for future proposals.

Proposal Development & Management (20%)

  • Manage the creation of compliant, high-quality proposals that articulate value, technical capability, sustainability, and competitive differentiators.
  • Lead proposal kick-off, storyboarding, and content development sessions to align technical and commercial messaging.
  • Ensure proposals meet client specifications, contract requirements, and corporate brand standards.
  • Track proposal metrics and success rates to drive continuous improvement and higher win rates.

Collaboration & Preconstruction Support (10%)

  • Partner with project managers, operations, and engineering teams to ensure a seamless transition from contract award to execution.
  • Provide preconstruction support, including scope clarification, technology integration strategies, client presentations, and contract negotiations.
  • Maintain alignment between estimating, delivery, and client expectations throughout the pre-award process.


Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED)

  • Proven track record of winning contracts in data centers, utilities, industrial facilities, or large commercial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of automation systems, IoT platforms, electrical power systems, mechanical systems, and critical infrastructure delivery.
  • Expertise in estimating methodologies, cost analysis, and proposal best practices.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, CRM systems, and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting to executives, technical teams, and client stakeholders.

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Up to 75%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states.
  • Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
  • Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.
  • Potential relocation opportunities may exist per project needs.
  • Potential international travel based on project needs and skillset development. 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field; equivalent technical/military experience accepted.
  • 8+ years’ experience in business development, estimating, or preconstruction for critical infrastructure or advanced building technology projects.
