About the Position: In this 6-month temporary contract position, the NEOMA Facilitator & Housing Support Worker will support families residing at the NEOMA building by fostering housing stability through life-skills programming and individualized support. Working in collaboration with the Calgary Homeless Foundation and other on-site partner agencies, the role is focused on delivering workshops, one-on-one coaching, and community-building events that empower families to build resilience, retain housing, and thrive. This role will also support the Home Again program’s case management.

  • First Aid Certificate Level C from an Alberta OHS Approved Agency
  • A reliable personal vehicle
  • Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and delivering skill-building workshops tailored to tenant needs (e.g., tenancy skills, parenting, budgeting, home maintenance).
  • Conducting in-home visits to provide individualized support in parenting, problem-solving, financial literacy, child development, and general life skills.
  • Employing a Housing First approach while supporting families with complex needs, including mental health and addictions.
  • Providing ongoing support to help tenants maintain housing stability.
  • Connecting program participants with appropriate community resources and assisting with navigation.
  • Hosting community events in collaboration with NEOMA partners to build positive tenant relationships and foster a sense of belonging.
  • Covering the case load in the Home Again program which includes negotiating with landlords and advocating on behalf of clients
  • Create a learning environment that is inclusive, empowering, and culturally responsive.
  • Track and report on participant progress toward goals.
  • Assist clients in locating and securing long-term housing, including liaising with landlords and attending property viewings.
  • Build strong relationships with external agencies, landlords, and local services.

Qualifications:

  • A Diploma or Degree in Social Services or a related discipline and/or previous experience working with vulnerable children and families is preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience providing housing support to vulnerable populations
  • Experience using the Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working with families from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Indigenous communities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.
  • Cultural humility and an understanding of trauma-informed care practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a community-based setting.
  • Willing to work a flexible work week, including evenings and weekends when needed
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Applicants must show proof of a class 5 Alberta driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Applicants must also agree to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle, and consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider’s requirements.
  • Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines and CTH policy.
  • First Aid/CPR Level C or higher
  • A clean Intervention Record Check (IRC) from Children and Family Services and Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (PIC) are one of the non-negotiable compliance requirements for all Closer to Home employees before an offer letter can be issued. The pay range for this role is:


$24.66 CAD per hour
