Collier Aerospace is seeking motivated and eager North Carolina State college students to join our NCSG Intern cohort. Collier Aerospace’s primary product, HyperX®, is a .NET desktop application used by engineers from amazing aerospace companies all around the world. Collier is currently adapting and expanding HyperX to integrate with emerging AI-based tools and workflows. During this internship, you will help develop and maintain new software tools within HyperX® to support this endeavor.


Required Qualifications

Candidates should have a computer science or software engineering background and a strong interest in AI/ML technology development. We are looking for the following abilities and related work experience:


Candidates should have many of the following capabilities and related work experience:

  • US citizen (required)
  • In-progress bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines;
    • Computer science,
    • Software engineering,
    • Or a related field
  • Hard skills:
    • Proficiency in an object-oriented, statically typed language (C#, C++, or Java); C# and .NET preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to read, navigate, and extend a large codebase (especially in collaboration with others)
    • Strong grasp of data structures and algorithms, including the ability to justify design decisions and reason about complexity
    • Working knowledge of:
      • Concurrency and thread safety
      • Databases and structured database formats (e.g. JSON, XML)
  • Relevant (but not required) experience:
    • Setting up custom AI workflows/environments/tools
    • Setting up, training, or running LLMs (or smaller models) locally
    • Data science, with libraries such as NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, etc.
    • Experience with context retrieval pipelines


Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Collier's engineering team to define use-cases for AI tools.
  • Collaborate with the research team and development team to plan, design, and prototype new features that facilitate interoperability between AI tools and HyperX®.
  • Develop and test these tools with C#.
  • Support development and maintenance of existing tools such as MCP servers and RAG systems.
