Democratic National Committee

Deputy Chief Technology Officer

About Democratic National Committee

We’re hiring! Are you fired up to elect Democrats up and down the ticket?

The Opportunity:

The Democratic National Committees Technology Team is seeking a Deputy Chief Technology Officer to join our strategic and technical leadership team. This executive-level role will help set and operationalize the direction of the largest technology team in the Democratic campaign ecosystem as we provide support for 2026 midterm campaigns and lay the groundwork for 2028 and beyond.

The Deputy CTO will report to the (newly incoming) Chief Technology Officer, and will be a critical partner as we move into the next stage of the Tech Team’s continuous evolution. This role will also partner closely with our Chief Security Officer and our Heads of Data & Engineering; Product; and Strategic Partnerships. We are looking for a versatile leader who will complement the experiences and expertise of our current leadership team – and are open to tailoring the focus of this role to match the strengths of the right candidate.

Who We Are:

We are a fully remote, distributed team living in 19 states and from a variety of backgrounds. Some of us have worked in political campaigns, others in public sector tech, and others in industry. We value diversity in perspective, lived experience, and the many paths one may take into working in political technology. We believe deeply in the promise of breaking the boom-bust cycle of political tech work and building technology infrastructure that will support campaigns from cycle to cycle.

Who you are:

The right candidate for this role will bring a track record of senior leadership within political and/or technical organizations, and a demonstrated ability to successfully operationalize complex, cross-disciplinary projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Helping define and advocate for the long-term vision of DNC Tech: As part of our cross-functional leadership team, you will be a key voice in setting the direction and focus of our team to ensure we deliver against our mission cycle over cycle. You will work with a range of stakeholders – internal and external to the DNC, both technical and non-technical – to communicate and advance this vision.
  • Owning key strategic initiatives end-to-end: You will be responsible for planning and working with cross-functional teams to drive the implementation of key initiatives. Exact projects will be matched to the profile of the ideal candidate for this role, but may include the evaluation and adoption of new technologies, preparation for supporting technical campaigns during the presidential primary process, and more.
  • Operationalizing internal processes and team support: You will help our team run more smoothly, including by providing support to our management team, implementing feedback loops to improve how we support individuals across the team, and supporting streamlined processes from contract reviews to budget management. Foster a culture of technical excellence and sustainable high performance, with a specific focus on team cohesion, morale, and burnout prevention during the high-pressure periods of the election cycle.
  • Additional areas of responsibility will be determined based on the strengths of the individual who fills this position.

Strong candidates for this position don’t need to check every box on this list, but will have some combination of the following qualifications:

  • You have a proven track record of successfully setting a strategic vision and achieving measurable outcomes.
  • You have significant experience overseeing complex technical projects from start to finish; this could include the development of new products, the adoption of new technologies, or the operationalization of new ways of working within a technology-focused organization.
  • You excel at driving results through influence, effectively organizing cross-functional teams around strategic initiatives without direct management responsibility.
  • You have experience working with/for major Democratic organizations including committees, campaigns, state parties or aligned entities.
  • You have experience in fast-paced, dynamic environments including the adoption of emerging and new technologies; bonus points if you have led transitions around technologies like generative AI.
  • You have strong experience with stakeholder management, including relationship building and strategic alignment.
  • You are a self-starter, capable of navigating ambiguous and evolving requirements and staying focused on delivering against the most important priorities.
  • You are comfortable working in remote/distributed environments, and collaborating with both teammates and stakeholders virtually.
  • You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting complex technical and strategic plans to executive leadership and non-technical audiences.

Travel: The Deputy Chief Technology Officer position will require occasional travel, which could be up to a few days a month.

Salary: The starting salary for the Deputy Chief Technology Officer position is $176,400, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.

Due to federal campaign finance rules, only U.S. citizens or U.S. green card holders are eligible for this role. See 52 U.S.C. 30121; 11 C.F.R. 110.20(i).
