What you will do:
- Take ownership of day-to-day accounting and finance operations, helping ensure that key activities are completed accurately and efficiently, even when processes are still evolving.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and inefficiencies in existing workflows, taking the initiative to investigate issues and implement practical solutions.
- Develop, document, and improve financial processes, procedures, checklists, and controls to create greater consistency and accountability.
- Bring structure to operational challenges by helping organise workflows, clarify responsibilities, and establish repeatable processes where needed.
- Balance transactional accounting responsibilities with month-end close activities, responding to changing business priorities without losing sight of accuracy and deadlines.
- Work independently to resolve routine issues, exercise sound judgment when faced with unfamiliar situations, and escalate matters appropriately when required.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve queries, improve coordination, and support the effective running of the UK finance function.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by challenging inefficient ways of working and recommending practical changes that support the team's evolving needs.
- Support the month-end close for the UK, including preparation of journal entries, accruals and prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations and monthly flux analysis
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions for the UK in a timely manner, including supplier and agent payments, invoicing and collections
- Carry out day-to-day finance administration and data processing, including data entry, bank postings, document filing and maintenance of accounting records
- Support UK statutory and tax compliance, including preparation of VAT returns, working with external advisers where required
- Ensure timely responses to client requests and internal queries;
- Support the preparation of financial statements and supporting documentation for audit purposes, and act as a point of contact for auditors and external advisers;
- Handling external and internal queries via email / phone.
- Identify and calculate provisions and exceptions to standard bookings;
- Develop, document and improve business processes, procedures, checklists, and policies
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
How you will make an impact:
- This is a hands-on accounting role in a dynamic, evolving business environment. Beyond maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the month-end close, you will play an important role in strengthening day-to-day finance operations, improving existing processes, and bringing greater structure and consistency to the way work gets done.
- We are looking for someone who is comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting to changing priorities, and taking a practical, solutions-oriented approach to challenges.
- You will need to be proactive in identifying gaps, resolving issues, and developing processes where they may not yet be fully established. This role will suit someone who enjoys getting into the detail, taking ownership, and making things work better — rather than relying on established processes to guide every step.
How you will grab our attention:
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
- Degree in business, majoring in Accounting, Finance or a related field. A professional accounting qualification, or progress towards one.
- 5+ years of combined experience in accounting and GL close process, including hands-on involvement in month-end close.
- Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of UK GAAP (FRS 102) and UK VAT, with solid financial/operational understanding; US GAAP is a plus. Previous experience supporting a UK business is highly valued.
- Highly developed knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel
- Comfortable combining hands-on administration and transactional processing with higher-level month-end close support
- Work collaboratively and communicate often with several internal departments
- Adapt to new tasks and responsibilities as the business grows and changes
- Contributing to the organization in a professional manner with a positive attitude
- An accounting professional who combines sound technical knowledge with a practical, adaptable, and improvement-focused mindset.
You will thrive in this role if you:
- Are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where processes, priorities, and ways of working may evolve.
- Take initiative when faced with ambiguity and can make progress without needing every task or process to be fully defined in advance.
- Enjoy solving problems, untangling operational challenges, and bringing order and structure to areas that need improvement.
- Are naturally proactive and take ownership of identifying issues rather than simply working around them or waiting for direction.
- Can move comfortably between detailed transactional work, month-end accounting responsibilities, and broader process improvement initiatives.
- Have the flexibility to adapt when priorities shift and can distinguish between what needs immediate attention and what can be improved over time.
- Value accuracy and sound financial controls while recognising that effective finance operations also require pragmatism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
If you think you’d make a great match for this position but don’t meet all the requirements, we would still encourage you to apply!
