About goTenna
goTenna is the world's leading mobile mesh networking company, providing off-grid connectivity solutions for smartphones and other devices, as well as augmenting traditional communications networks. This technology enables mobile, long-range connectivity without cell, Wi-Fi, or satellite connectivity. goTenna's products are currently in use by law enforcement, military, and public safety agencies worldwide. goTenna is a wholly owned subsidiary of Forterra, a leading provider of ground autonomy solutions for the US Department of Defense and other organizations.
About the role:
The Solutions Engineer is a member of goTenna’s Solutions Architecture team and serves as the technical bridge between US Government test organizations, third party company performers, and goTenna. As a member of the planning cell you will translate event needs into practical tracking, communications, and integration plans, coordinating cross-organizationally to include with goTenna Product, Engineering, PMO, and Customer Experience (CX).
This role provides continuity across overlapping event planning cycles. You will own technical planning and integration coordination; CX teams deploy equipment and provide direct on-site event support. You will prepare those teams for execution and resolve technical planning issues while preserving capacity to plan upcoming events.
Travel and Work Requirements:
Significant travel is expected for customer and partner planning meetings, range site surveys, integration and readiness reviews, and selected test events. Frequency and duration will vary with event schedules and may include multi-day trips or short-notice changes. Travel supports the SE’s technical planning and coordination responsibilities; routine equipment deployment and direct event support are assigned to CX teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead technical coordination: Serve as goTenna’s technical point of contact for customers and partners, such as government and industry planners, range personnel, platform vendors, and partner teams. Document decisions, open issues, interface owners, and agreed technical deliverables
- Translate event needs into requirements: Define platform quantities, operating areas, tracking update rates, network capacity, coverage, and common operating picture needs. Track and manage assumptions, dependencies, and technical risks across concurrent planning cycles
- Plan communications and relay architectures: Develop event-specific network diagrams, relay and gateway siting concepts, routing and backhaul approaches, and spectrum coordination inputs. Account for terrain, dispersed lanes, existing range infrastructure, and legacy-radio interoperability
- Coordinate tracker and platform integration: Work with partners and internal teams on tracker selection, mounting, power, configuration, and environmental needs for air, ground, and maritime platforms within the agreed goTenna scope
- Define data interfaces and handoffs: Coordinate tracker-to-gateway and TAK/commonpicture data flows with partner collection networks. Clarify data formats, access, handling requirements, and responsibilities; collection storage, scoring, and dashboards remain with their designated owners unless separately agreed
- Develop deep product expertise: Build and maintain a thorough understanding of goTenna product capabilities, limitations, configuration options, and integration requirements. Accurately represent what products can and cannot support, distinguish demonstrated performance from planned capabilities, and validate uncertain use cases with Product and Engineering
- Align plans with product readiness: Translate customer needs into actionable inputs for Product and Engineering. Communicate capability limits and tradeoffs, track integration dependencies, and escalate gaps before delivery commitments are made
- Prepare CX for execution: Produce configuration baselines, equipment requirements, network plans, validation criteria, and technical briefings. Coordinate readiness with the Deployment Manager, who manages event scheduling, staffing, and logistics; support technical escalations and incorporate field lessons into later plans
- Other duties as required
Required Experience:
- Relevant experience: 5+ years in tactical communications, systems integration, solutions engineering, or technical planning for military, government, or operational test environments
- Technical planning: Demonstrated ability to turn mission requirements into documented architectures, interface requirements, configurations, and validation plans, while managing multiple overlapping efforts
- Communications knowledge: Practical understanding of RF propagation, mesh networks, relay siting, spectrum deconfliction, IP networking, routing, and transport options such as MANET and SATCOM
- TAK and systems integration: Experience with ATAK/TAK and integrating position or sensor data into a common operating picture; ability to coordinate hardware, software, and network interfaces across vendors
- Stakeholder coordination: Ability to lead technical discussions with government planners, range staff, vendors, and internal engineering teams, and clearly communicate requirements, constraints, decisions, and unresolved risks
- Documentation and follow-through: Strong written communication, disciplined configuration and issue tracking, and the judgment to distinguish validated capability from development targets
Preferred Experience:
- Operational test and evaluation or military exercise planning; uncrewed air, ground, or maritime systems • Tracking instrumentation and platform integration
- goTenna radios, relays, or gateways; and integration across mixed radio networks
- Experience supporting government test ranges or coordinating technical work across multiple partner organizations is valuable
